Default New Tires!

Well, I got the Avon Tech M550 A/S tires installed today. Goodbye noisy runflats and hello super quiet and responsive all-weather tires. (I kept the 2 rear F1 Supercars. 60% tread left! Only the fronts were shot!) I drove the Avons in a driving rainstorm today and they handled well. I'll try and do a high speed and cornering test on them tomorrow if the weather allows. It'll be a while before I can test them in winter weather obviously. I don't drive my vette in snow if it's snowing already but, around here during the winter months it can be clear, sunny and 50 degrees in the morning and be an unforecasted snow storm by noon. Good old St. Louis metro weather. Since, I never could find anybody with my OEM tires locally, I'm trying the Avons. (Even Tirerack.com was out of the Goodyears!) They had plenty of the Avons and are now the distributor of the British tire.) Now, where did I put that emergency air pump and tire repair kit? It's been 12 years since I had a flat, so, you know I'm due!!

Well the scuttlebutt is to never mix runflats with regular tires.
Be careful and good luck!

Default Avon M550 Tires

I replaced my GY Runcraps with the Avons and have about 5M miles on them. Great so far. Some reviews said they got ruff later on, but for the price you can't beat um.

Lots of good tire choices out there. Runflats are the worst. Getting rid of them was one of the best improvements I've done

I had the exact same tire on my 05 CTS V and they performed great in light snow, definitely a good option for northern drivers that will use their cars a lot in below 40 degree temps. I even bought 5 for my V and used the 5th as a real spare since all 4 tires were the same size. Still saved about $600.

I have had the Avon A/S on my Volvo V70R for a couple of years and have been quite happy with them in rain, snow; cold and warm (something we've not had much of here in Seattle this year).

Oh, for those of you who are not familar with Volovs, this is a 6 sp MT, 300+hp wagon with a top speed of 155. Great grocery getter.

50 miles on the Avons today!! Sweet!! Responsive, quiet on the highway and couldn't break them loose on hard launches.

Hey, Ed, nice tires!

I so agree with your comments on the ZR1 wheels from the other post, they are sweet looking and I want them too.

How many miles did you get out of the fronts? I only have about 9000 miles on my 2006 and the fronts still look good.

See you around town.

Surprised your fronts went so fast. I can see you have the base suspension, so I'm surprised as you have the same tires I have and at 14k they hardly have any wear at all. Did you get an alignment? I think there may be something wrong there.

Hi Kevin,

What's up?! I had about 14,900 on my front F1 Supercars. The passenger side tire was almost bald on the inside and the other one was getting there. And I guess that we'll just have to wait until those ZR1 replicas wheels get here from China like most of the other replica corvette wheels. See ya!

Hey Ghostrunner,

I went with the stock sizes since I'm keeping my stock wheels for now.
245/40/18 Fronts
285/35/19 Rears

So far so good! No surprises!!

Long story! In 2006, on purchase, the dealer swapped my chrome wheels out for polished wheels off a C6 with the Z51 package trying to be slick. (I got a check for $880 from them, since they got caught!) Anyway, because of that I have the standard package suspension package but F1 Supercars tires. I don't think they last as long as the standard EMTs.

What is your opinion of all the negative reviews on TireRack site? Majority will not buy them again due to poor wear, at higher mileage very noisy tire.

At $770 for a set of 4, I decided to give them a try. The fronts are only $136.00 each. So far, with 120 miles on them, I'm very happy!! I'll try and keep everybody posted as I get more miles on them. My F1 Supercars didn't even last 15,000 miles and they are $1500 a set. And I never really liked them anyway, so, I'm trying something different.

Topelf,

Where did you buy them? I'm in the St Louis area also and am thinking of getting them since my Firestone dealer can't get any wide ovals. Where did you get them installed?
