Default Power Top Hyd Fluid?

Wife's 05 Vert had the pressure screw come a little loose last week. I finally found the pump (with help from this forum!) cause the owners manual says its in the engine compartment (no, its under the tonneau). The reservoir is a little low and I wanted to top it off, probem is there is no documentation for the type of fluid it takes.

Off to the dealer I go. Parts and Service manager cant find what goes into the reservoir except "hydraulic oil." Any wizards here know if it's brake fluid or jack oil? What is in there is rather clear, like brake fluid.....

Transmission fluid in my '94 Cutlass and '68 Firebird convertibles. I'd make sure first though!

I don't have the Helms Manual, but it should say in it. Which means the dealer should have it in their computer.

They found a part number for the fluid, but is is non specific as to what type of fluid it is. To order some is $54....not sure I want to pay that for about 3 oz.....

Trans fluid is not clear, so I dont think it is that...

Hydraulic fluid is what you want and it is clear. It is not brake fluid or tranny fluid or jack oil. You can get it at many places like Tractor Supply or any farm implement dealer like John Deere. It won't cost $54 for 3 oz. either!

2008 Service Manual says to add hydraulic fluid, GM part number 89022748 until the fluid level is between the max and min lines on the reservoir. Again, I would just run down to Tractor Supply and get a quart or pint of standard hydraulic fluid.

No problem. Live in extreme Northwest corner of Ohio. No where near Xenia.

Yes, when I saw you lived in California, I figured you would be wondering what the hell a Tractor Supply store was! John Deere? It is the Corvette of the farm world!

What is the GM part number. My owners manual does not list it.
Cheers!
