Default Intake system

If I install a new intake system, would it still pass a smog inspection in Calfornia or will have have to remove it each time I go back for the inspection

It all depends on where you go to get it done.

Do you mean where I get the intake installed or where I get the smog inspection?

IF the inspector noticed it wasn't stock (and didn't have a CARB #) AND if the inspector wanted to be a jerk you could fail the inspection.

Chances that he would notice or care? Pretty low.

Don't know why it wouldn't pass an inspection. MAF sensor is still in use, just another way to deliver air to the intake...??

California Air Resource Board won't let you replace any emissions part except with an original factory matching # or a part with a CARB # that shows it's been tested and approved by the CARB.

Parts before the MAF or after the cats aren't emissions related. Air cleaner housings don't matter for emissions, and as a practical matter, the stock housing isn't a flow restriction for performance reasons either.

An air filter is not an "Intake system."
