The power top and the rest of the requisite hardware that make up the difference in the 1LT and the 2LT in the coupe.
-Cargo Net: In rear compartment area
-Luggage shade and parcel net
-Seats: 6-way power passenger’
-Seats: Sport front bucket with perforated leather seating surfaces, includes back angle adjustment and adjustable lumbar and side bolsters

In going to the 1LT on the convertible GM is forcing the "power top" option on buyers.
Nothing new. They actually they did that a couple of years ago when they started making the power top mandatory in the 3LT. Anyone that wants the content of the 3LT car was forced to take the power top along with it.

One of the reasons I bought a late 06 instead of an early 07

It weighs more and it's more complex (ie: more stuff to break).
I myself am accustomed to removing the coupe roof panel, so I'd take the manual top. It would weigh less than a 2LT and still be easier to drop the top than my coupe.
As indicated in the posts below there are a few reasons why people wouldn't want it. I'll add to those with the simple fact that the manual top is so light and easy to operate that most people can raise and lower it faster than the manual top.

I bought an 08 2LT vert because I didn't see the need for a power top, didn't need or want heated seats (don't get driven in winter), telescoping steering wheel. The HUD would of been nice but again, don't track the car so don't need the item. My biggest reason why I didn't want a power top was the lost space in the trunk. GM should let people choose what they want rather than force them to take packages containing options they don't want...

it really is easy and i think you get a little more trunk space.....
....gm/chevrolet always say they "listen"to corvette owners,but
maybe they get a little deaf about things like this....
they really made the ZR1 an expensive all or nothing option

Oh, yeah. Add that to my list . . . "and if it did not occupy any space" . . .
GM should let people choose what they want. If you have seen the assembly line at Bowling Green, it would be no problem to build them to any combination of options.

And another thing . . .
. . . . . and if they made the LS7 engine an option in the steel-framed convertible they would have sold a train-load of them. And they would not have to call it a Z06 convertible, just an LS7 engine in a C6 vert . . . .
maybe with wider rear fenders and wider rear tires
Can't imagine why? Weight? No way. Who hot rods a convertible in other than a straight line to the store. I can do it myself? I've got a 59 if I need that mano y top experience. Or I could mow the neighbor's yard. Hermits, misers, and descendents of Mr. Scrooge? Hmm?
