Sorry if this is a repost - but I did a search and couldn't find what I needed.
I just got my DSV automatic shift boot, but the instructions on his site are only for a manual transmission.
I got as far as finding the ring that is attached to the stock boot, and twisting it to the side - but the **** doesn't seem to come off that way. I removed the top cover on the handle and the button underneath.
I also can see at the bottom of the new DSV handle that there is a groove that I am assuming lines up with the ring that I turned a quarter-turn earlier.
I was also able to kind of pry out the left side of the stock boot and see underneath. It has some kind of padding on the underside of the boot that is not there on the DSV boot.
So - I am lost at what to do next. Does anyone have a step-by-step instructions sheet (preferably with pictures) on how to install a shift boot on a 2008 Automatic Transmission?
Going to try and have the car audio tech install it tomorrow when he installs my new DNX7120... since it requires removing the console trim anyway - why remove it twice (one for the stereo install and one for me attempting the boot install myself) if I don't have to?
These ***** seem to come in two flavors ... those that come off, and those that do not. Mine is one of the latter. I tried and failed ... it just does not budge. I have had two Chevy techs try ... they take them off every day, but mine seems stuck in place. So I had to return my shift book to Geraldo since I could never get the **** off ...
Went down this trail a while ago. The mothers in our neighborhood were cupping their hands over their children's ears and rushing them into their homes as I tried to get the darn A6 shift **** off the lever.
A couple of hints: There is a plastic tie that is just under the shift **** and at the top of the boot that must be cut to remove the ****. That bit of information was not in the GM instruction that I read. After cutting that little bugger, twist the ring on the boot from 12 o'clock to 1 o'clock and lift. I found a great tutorial but have lost it. I'll do a search and post if it's still available.
RickT post is great just follow the instructions. It just seems like you have to find the right spot and the shift **** will come right off. It took me about 10 minutes of playing with it to get it right and off. The same thing when I was putting iot back on. By the way once you are done and want to make sure the shifter works, don,t forget to startup the car. Like an idoit I did'nt and was playing with it for 4 or 5 minutes before I realized the car had to be started and I didn't do anything wrong
