No, only the model year. However, someone with access to the GM computer system can look it up. Forum member GMautotech looks those up for folks. Send him a PM and include your email address, VIN, and what info. you want (build date). Here's a link to his profile.
Is there any way to tell when a car was built based on the vin#?
Real rough guesstimate; 150 cars per day X 5 days per week X 50 weeks per year = aprx 35,000 cars. Last 5 digits of VIN; July build = 00,000, Dec. build 15,000, June build 37,000.
Or look on the door jamb, there is a sticker for the month and year of production.
Yes you can determine your exact build date from the VIN your dealer should be willing to run a GM VIS for you....
there are some CF members that work for GM /dealers and have access to the system as well.
I asked my salesman... he didn't know about GM VIS ... but asked and ran it for me...
OK, you've gotten some confusing responses here. There's nothing in the VIN that specifies either directly or in code the car's build date. If that was your question, then the answer is "No". As some have already stated, however, there are ways to find out the build date by referencing the VIN.
