I have a 1LT '07 6 spd and, odd as it may seem never drove in the dark until last week. I have the lights on "auto" because that's the way the car came. No big deal.
In driving from dusk to dark the "headlights suggested" message came up but I was unable to turn the headlights on. I pulled over and shut the car off (to read the owner's manual) and was confused. But, when I started the car back up the headlights came on with the switch on auto.
I searched this and do not understand if mine is working the way it's supposed to or not. Any suggestions helpful.

The switch on the stalk defaults to the "auto" position. It is spring loaded to do so. If at any time during the drive you rotate the light switch to the off position you will disable the "auto" headlight mode for that ignition cycle. All that will display when the daylight sensor sees the need for lights is "headlights suggested". Is it possible that in the course of starting or operating the vehicle that you inadvertantly turned the headlight **** from auto to off and back?
I'm not sure which way or to what position you turned your light switch to but I dont think you have a problem.....give it another try and make sure your not turning the switch towards you or to the position that automatically goes back to auto position once you release it........
