I have a 2008 coupe with the A6 and performance axle ratio. I love it.
But I did something today that scared the crap out of me.
I was rolling up at a red light with a car in front on me. Barely crawling to a stop. Realized that I was still in 2nd and hit the paddle to downshift to 1st. The engine surged and my Corvette launched like I was at a drag strip. The only thing that saved me from a wrecked front end was that my foot was already on the brake.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, the computer has made all other manual downshifts very smooth, including 2nd to 1st shifts at an appropriate speed.
My experience with my '07 is that in the say 4 to 5 mph range it does this but in the 1 to 3 or even 6 to 7 it is not nearly as harsh. Strange but that middle area can be a jolt sometimes.
Edit: When this happens, it does feel like the car jumps forward a little, but not significant unless you are very close to someone.
I think I read somewhere on the forum (or maybe in my owner's manual) that if you're in paddle shift mode and come to a stop without downshifting, the car will automatically downshift to 2nd gear. When I drive in S mode I only downshift to 2nd, never use 1st gear at all.
This has not happened to me either and hoping it wont. Does chevy know about this problem or has there been any recalls ?
Now, I'm wondering if this is an issue something needs to be done !!! If not Chevy maybe looking at a law suit if someone gets injuried or the driver injuries someone else.
So far when I'm useing the paddles and I down shift when stopping, I always down shift through the gears 3,2,1, and haven't felt any jump in 1st, luckely. I hope I didn't jinks anything
Well luck to all,
