Help
I bought an 8 Ball shifting **** for my C6 - and when I put the screw back in - damn it - I stripped the hole in the shaft.
Any ideas?
Thanks for any iput except the obvious - 'you dumb $hit - what did you do that for'.
Is the piece available separately?

Take a tap - tap it out to larger size; get matching set screw and take it easy this time.

Either chase the threads or do the above.

Self tapping screw? It isn't one that you would be removing often so it should not be a problem plus you could always tap later.

Ummm - kind of the "shadetree mechanic" way to fix it. Best to do it right the first time.

I agree but because he was asking the question to begin with I figured he was looking for something he was more comfotable doing. My first vote is with your thinking.

I wonder if Helicoil makes thread inserts that size. You should check on their site.
(Helicoils are spring like objects that are inserted and become the new threads.) Check it out.

I think this will be way too small for a Helicoil.

Thanks guys - this forum is great.
I think I'll head to the hardware store and buy a tap and a new screw.
Thanks again.

Try chasing the opening with the same size tap and see if t=you can restore the threads, if that doesn't work go to the next size up.
