AOL has an article today about fuel efficient sports cars. One of the top 5 is the "Z51" Corvette. I am not sure why they designate the Z51 since the base suspension model has similar fuel economy. Regardless, the article says what we Corvette owners have known since the introduction of the C5, that although Corvettes are very powerful, can also be very fuel efficient when driven around town or at highway speeds. (of course that may not apply when I am in the mountains driving the twisties ) Many times I have been at the gas pump filling my up C6, and some dumba$$ in a big SUV will make a goofy statement like "I don't know how you keep gas in that thing." I hope many non-vette people read this piece.
I don't understand why they used the Z51 with shorter gears and worse gas mileage. My '08 Z06 gets a little better mileage than my '05 Z51 Coupe did, mostly because of the 14% shorter 6th gear. I'm averaging 21 mpg overall, including some aggressive driving, and this thing gets 28 on the highway. No one believes me.
