Sorry to hear about your lose, Houston is a good city and crime of this sorts happens everywhere.

The engraving would not hurt but once the thief has the wheels and sees the engraving he will not return them to you and will dispose of them, you might get them back you might not. Wheel locks (the Gorilla looks like a good solution) is a good start but as pointed out by others, pro's know how to work around them. I would get an alarm, a loud one and with a remote notification, I would not run out to see who is breaking in or stealing from your car unless you have a gun and (most important) not afraid to use it if required.

If you cannot move maybe you can at least park your car where you can see it from your apartment, then if the alarm goes off (once you get one) you can look out see what is going on while calling the police. If your apartment complex is serviced by the medical center police or HPD you need to have that number programed into your phone on speed dial.

Hope you can get your new wheels in a timely manner so you can be on the road again enjoying your pretty red corvette and put this behind you.

I am still waiting for the adjuster to see if they let me pick another wheel. I need to find some wheel that no one want to steal. The dealership told me to engrave my name on the wheel to prevent it being stolen

The adjuster finally came to look at my car. Finally, I can get my car to the shop.

Hon, that is overkill. Assuming you could even get such things, they would be too much trouble and expense. Get a set of wheel locks and a good alarm system. I live in Houston also (Meyerland), and have a garage to keep my C6 in, but you can bet that wheel locks and an alarm system will be on the car by next week (I just got the car last week).

In fact, I was going to post some queries on the site asking about these very things (wheel locks and a supplemental alarm system) today. Your experience has saved me the trouble.

One thing I can tell you, having lived in Houston most of my life, is that the other posters are correct about getting a garage to keep your car in. When I was single and living in apartments, I always got a garage to keep my car in (at that time, it was a GMC pickup, a popular item for thieves). Most of the newer complexes in town have them, although any inside the Loop are going to be expensive (but then, living in a decent apartment inside the Loop period will be).

Keeping that car in a regular apartment parking slot is just begging to have it stolen or vandalized. It was bad before Katrina blew all that Nawlins' trash into town, but thanks to that its even worse now.

I guess it's a downside to owning a quality car; you have the extra expense and hassle of keeping it safe. I'm sure things will work out for you in the long run.

BTW, I'd love to know the name of that alarm installer by Memorial Hermann SW myself if anyone knows it.

Pepper spray is an annoyance that does not always work to deter.
KBoltz recommended those outfits out 290, and I even know the people at Hot Wells (used to go swimming there all the time when I was a kid). But Top Gun is also a very good place, and a lot closer to where she lives.

But heed their advice, StickyBB. You are living in a dangerous part of town. Get a pistol you are comfortable with, learn how to use it, and get your CCL. The life you save may be your own...

Hey man, if you need a set of emergency wheels/tires you can borrow my set. The tires would have to be reinstalled to the rims, but they are yours to use, "FREE OF CHARGE" until you get settled with your insurance company.

On the west side of Houston. Drop me a PM.

You're a "Ding-Dong-Daddy"...how could you possibly know these things?

Apartment living in Houston is tough no matter where you are. I lived there until I was 18 and for the life of me, cannot figure out why anyone would want to move there today.

BTW... Where do you think Joe Horn would be today if he had a can of pepper spray?

Sorry for the mess ! I bought a cheap set of locks and lugs from AutoZone for 25.00. See post #20 Gorilla Wheel locks would be better for a few dollars more. File a police report as suggested and find a garage. Scumbags will know exactly where to find new tires and wheels.
Enjoy your Vette

Most apartment complexes do not allow you to build a garage in the parking lot. I don't think this is good advice you offer. Buying a house to protect your wheels from being stolen is not a very cost effective solution as well.

It happens alot in many APT complexes here in the Tampa area. I've seen Hondas on blocks, trucks and SUV's.

Hope the rockers are ok.

Wow..this whole situation just sucks..I haven't really been all that afraid of getting my wheels stolen until now. I have no idea who would have the ***** to do this in broad daylight!!

I still can't believe no one saw people jack up your vette, put on blocks, take off the wheels, throw them in a truck and take off.

Good Luck with the resolution..feel for you!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, many of the newer apartment complexes in Houston have one-car garages you can rent.

I hear ya, but I don't think the OP was looking for advice on where to move, and I was cracking wise to comments that suggested things along that line.
