Default Tire Concern

Hi ... '05 C6... one of the rear EMT's picked up a BIG metal screw which destroyed the integrity of the tire. Went to Just Tires to have it replaced. Tire was 18 months old- 16 K mile. Here's my concern: mgr said, "The GS'2 EMTare DISCONTINUED. The replacement tire is the AS-C EMT". So, I've got a car with a destroyed rear tire. The GY website reviews on the AS-C are almost identical to the GS 2 and the tread pattern looks identical. I said, "Go ahead; replace the rears and I'll put new AS-C's on the front in a few weeks". Four weeks later, I ask about the availability of the AS-C's for the front. Mgr: "They're not making the AS-C's now. It'll be 2-3 months. I can get you the GS2's" ! Of course, I asked about the conversation from 4 weeks ago and the "GS2 discontinuation". He said, "That's what GY told me. Here's what's available now".

So, I can have the GS2's in 10 days OR wait 2- 3 months to have the AS-C's like he put on the rear. GY says that they never discontinued the GS2's. I really didn't want to wait another 3,000 miles to replace the fronts especially since I'm looking to sell to buy an '08.
Has anyone ran into "conflicting info " like this? Would you put the GS2's on the front with the AS-C's on the rear?
I don't want to screw a buyer but I don;t want to wait too long...
thanks for any advice .... Bob

That manager is either badly misinformed, or deliberately trying to flim flam you. The AS-C has exactly the same tread pattern as the GS-2, but has a softer rubber compound -- hence the designation All-Season. Quoting TireRack's web page:

"The M+S rated Eagle F1 A/S-C EMT is Goodyear's Ultra High Performance All-Season radial developed for the Chevrolet C-6 Corvette that was designed to provide traction on dry and wet roads, as well as in occasional light snow.

NOTE: There currently aren't any dedicated winter tires available in C-6 Corvette sizes."

I would call Goodyear, tell them your situation, and ask them if they have another EMT-qualified store in your area. Then drive your car -- slowly of course -- AWAY from the Just Tires store.

You can get GS-2's in 10 days? Where? How? Some of us have been looking for 4 months for these damn tires. Ok now seriously, last I checked the GS-2 is not being discontinued. It's just on backorder from Goodyear since the beginning of this year. The AS-C tires are simply the all-season variant, they are not the same high performance summer tires that the GS-2's are. Up from the GS-2 come the SuperCar and the GS-D3 tires in the maximum performance summer tire category.

I actually just replaced my GS-2's with the GS-D3 but they are very expensive. Cost me $800 over the price of 4 GS-2's. Only reason I went with them is because I wanted to stick with run-flats and I do not like the SC tires because they wear out too quickly. The GS-D3 tires have treadwear ratings similar to the GS-2 yet perform better in both wet and dry conditions. Excellent tires by the way, I've had them two weeks now and the handling is much better and the road noise is a little less.

Sounds like you got stroked by that manager who just wanted to make a sale on what he had in inventory. Sorry to hear about this as the guy wanted to make a quick sale rather then have you as a long term customer which would be getting you what you wanted.

thanks for the feedback. actually, Eri/Hawaii, i've been dealing with the guy for a while on our family cars. Sadly, I'm inclined to think that I may have been given an enema. GY gives me one answer; he gives me another . Must admit: I did have an issue with him 18 months ago when I put the GS-2's on the car. He had Supercar tires put on the rear. I promptly "broke traction'' as I do not have a Z06 . (GS2's were put on after the "short debate" ended!) I usually trust anyone until I catch them in a lie. Now, I've got GY vs Just Tires. Anyway, would you wait for the AS-C's for the front or put the GS 2's up front with the AS-C's on the rear? From the posts, it sounds like I'll be ok and simply truthfully explain to any buyer the situation. Thanks again... Bob

This cracks me up. I had a nail in the rear tire earlier this week. I have the z-51 with the supercar tires. I was told that their were no supercar tires available for months and was sold 2 G2 tires for the rear. One was free as I had the warranty for the bad tire. The warranty is based on tread depth after a year through 6 years. I guess i was taken too.
