Default Door won't work

I have my FIRST problem with my 08 Vert. 3000 miles and the Drivers door won't open. I have to open it via the pull tab in the trunk. The passenger door opens without a hitch and the Drivers door will open from the inside but will not open from the outside. Happened suddenly....never any kind of problem before. Any suggestions from the forum members on what to try? I am thinking that the electronic pad is bad on the entry. If so ..... what does that require to fix?

Sounds like the pad switch as you mentioned. Maybe you can swap it with the one from the right door and see if it works then? If you are by chance under warranty still, let the dealer fix it.

Offsite couch mechanic diagnosis is the driver door outside switch, or the wiring to it. Dealer warranty item.

Since the OP has a 2008 Corvette, there is a VERY GOOD CHANCE that it is still under warranty .

My 2006 is still under warranty until next May .

Yes the car is an 08 so it has LOTS of warranty left. However, I really don' want to subject myself to a dealer service dept. If it is a part that can be easily replaced, I would just as soon as do it MYSELF and avoid any scratches that I KNOW would mysteriously show up.

In that case...Pull the door panel, or whatever it takes to access the switch and it's wiring harness, use a DVOM (volt / ohm meter) to check switch. Unplug harness, back-probe wires. Should be infinite resistance, then hold outside door button down, should be little or no resistance.

If switch is OK, there is a wiring or BCM issue.

Or, take it to the dealer, give the service writer $20 for whatever technician gets your car dispatched to him, and $10 for the service writer. Tell them to please take special care of your baby. No guarantees, but it lowers the abuse, sloppy work factor greatly.

Good luck, it's a simple dealer repair, but I don't like taking my car in either.

had a similar post a while back that proved to be a disconnected wire from the door pad. you can pop it right out (2 screws) and check. idea of swapping pads from other side is good and would allow you to check it out without the dealer involved. would still let GM pay for the replacement parts.

I remember a post a while back about someone that had to replace the door opening pad. Surprisingly it was not a very expensive part. I think I remember it being about $20.00 or less. I would still use the warranty and get it fixed. Good Luck with the fix.

I would take it to the dealer in case it is more than just the pad.

if you fix it yourself and you have further problems, they can void your warranty for that area of work you did. take it to the dealer

If the Handle Switch is defective, you can purchase a new one from Gene Culley (GMPartsHouse.com) at this link:

I have this issue now 2280 miles. However, the door switch was replaced and nothing improved/changed. Taking it in tomorrow for a full work-over (and I hate the fact that I have to do this!) Nothing on the drivers side works. Windows switch, locks, pre-sets for driver 1 & 2, zippo. Window is stuck in the down position too.

The same exact thing happened to my car, except it was the passenger side. Just take it in to the dealer, I had my car back the same day.

What'd they determine to be the problem?
