Default Need help with Corvette article !!

Hi, my little cousin wrote an arcticle for his highschool paper or project( not sure which one). I love Vettes but I think some of his facts are wrong. Overall the article was very fun to read and I thought he did a good job. It basically is an opinion on his favorite 11 factory models. Why he chose 11 instead of ten I have no idea I figured I would copy and paste his thoughts and see what you guys thought. Don't be to hard on him because I am sure he will eventually see this thread!!

Let me mention a name that NO Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Porsche owner ever want to hear, Corvette. There is a good reason why these owners never want to hear that name. Read on to find out!! Below you will see the top 11 most badass models GM has ever released. If you ever pull up next to a light in your fartcan civic and any of these cars are sitting at the light, save yourself the embarrassment and do not make eye contact and do not even try because YOU WILL LOSE.

11. C4 L98- The C4 L98 was from 1984-1990 and is where the Corvette really started to make some noise as a feared performance car. The C4 L98 came with a 240 Horsepower V8 350 engine and was light enough to make short work of Mustangs, Camaros, and Trans ams.

10. C4 LT1- In 1991 The C4 Corvettes switched from the L98 engine to the LT1 engine. The car now came standard with 300 Horsepower and 300 ft of torque. These cars also gained no weight from the C4 L98 cars and were still around 3,500 lbs. That is a potent combination and enough to propel the Corvette into the 13 second quarter mile times at around 103 mph. Even though these performance numbers are now over 15 years old they are still on par with some of the smaller performance cars today. An LT1 C4 Corvette is still a match for todays STI's, Evos, and 350 Z's.

9. C3 454 - In the 1960's there was a car called the 454. This was the Biggest engine Chevy ever offered in the Corvette and still is to this day. With the new laws passed you can also bet it will hold its place as the biggest engine from any Corvette. Gas laws and other state legislation have insured that you will never see another 454 so if you have one lock it away in your garage and enjoy it. These cars had big horsepower BUT also had a lot of weight to overcome. They were none the less a factory 13 second quarter mile car in a time when you rarely saw that.

8. C4 LT4- In 1996 gm upped the ante with the LT4 and the Corvette now came standard with an LT4 engine and 330 Horsepower and 315 ft of torque. This would mark the last year for the C4 body style (1996) but not to worry, greater things were to come.

7. C5 LS1- In 1997 the Corvette changed its body style for the fifth time. This marked the start of the LS1 engine and the C5 body. This car lost weight and gained power from the previous generation. The C5 Corvette came with an LS1 engine that made 345 Horsepower and 330 FT of Torque. The car weighed approximately 3250 lbs and was good for low 13 second blast down the quarter mile strip at well over 108 mph.

6. C4 ZR1- In the early and mid 90's this was THE CAR TO HAVE, PERIOD. This was a C4 Corvette that came with an all new LT5 engine that had 400 horsepower and 400 ft of torque and weighed 3400 lbs. This was a factory mid 12 second car right off the showroom floor. This car lasted from 1990-1995 and carried a hefty sticker price of 70 thousand dollars. This was the American car these foreign owners did not want to see. At the time this car was called the King of the Hill for a good reason.

5. C6 LS2- In 2005 the Corvette once again went through a complete redesign. The C6 came out with a redesigned body and non pop up headlights for the first time since the C1. The 2005-2007 C6 came with an LS2 Engine. This now went from the 5.7 liter LS1 TO A 6.0 liter LS2. Horsepower was also bumped to the magical number of 400 Horsepower and 400 ft of torque. This car was also a mid 12 second car right off the showroom floor at around 112 mph and matched the C4 ZR1 performance numbers for far less a price tag.

4. C5 Z06- The C5 Z06 is one of the most feared and respected Corvette models out there and for very good reasons. This was a lightweight car that only weighs 3118 lbs and came with an LS6 engine rated at 405 Horsepower and 400 ft of torque. This car was more than capable of doing zero to sixty in four seconds flat and had a top speed of 175 MPH. The C5 Z06 was capable of low 12's bone stock and trapped at around 116 MPH in the quarter mile Quite a car.

3. C6 LS3- In 2008 the "BASE" Corvette became a very potent animal. Rewind history about 15 years and for this kind of performance (C4 ZR1) people were paying 65-70k. Remember the C5 Z06 had 405 hp and the C4 ZR1 had 400 hp. Well now your "regular" corvette has a huge 6.2 liter LS3 engine with 436 hp and 430 ft of torque . This LS3 has an insane top speed of 190 MPH and is capable of running VERY low 12's at 117+MPH. Let me stress the point, there is NOTHING REGULAR about this Corvette. At 3200 LBS and a slightly underrated 436 horsepower and a top speed of 190 MPH this is one of the fastest cars out there today bar none. Also from the tuners mouth, the LS3 responds very well to mods and is a beast with simple bolt ons or an extreme make over with forced induction. Remember this is the same engine the C6 ZR1 now has minus the supercharger.

2. C6 Z06 - In 2006 GM released the sequel to their C5 Z06. Make no mistake about this. This was Chevys big FU to all other car makers. Dodge, Ford, Imports, and most importantly Euros, F%CK YOU. This car was a lightweight at 3130 lbs, just 12 lbs heavier than a C5 Z06 however this car had a much more sinister engine than the C5 Z06's 405 hp LS6. We are talking the LS7, this is a 427 cubic inch block, a 7.0 liter engine making 505 Horsepower and 470 FT of Torque. This car was an instant U TUBE star pulling on the Dodge Viper, GT500 Mustang, C5 Z06, Porsche 911 turbo and pretty much every other car you could think of. This car was capable of low 11's right out the box at well over 125 MPH. That kind of performance was pretty much unheard of and still is very rare. This car was obviously the new King of the Hill until now ....

1. C6 ZR1- Well who would have know it would be another Corvette that knocks the C6 Z06 off its pedestal. This car may very well be the latest and greatest Corvette ever made. With the new gas laws quickly approaching and rumors already rampant that the C7 is scrapped and the C6 will be the last generation Corvette ever produced. Before the release of this car the name of this car was a big story. This went from Corvette SS to the Blue Devil and finally settling on a blast from Chevrolets past, the ZR1. This car is not as light as the C6 Z06 but guess what with 640 Horsepower, who cares!!! Let me state that again 640 Horsepower. That is more than any sane man needs but lets face it, the men into these cars are not sane. This car recently lapped the world famous Nurburgring in Germany in under 7: 26 seconds. The fastest time of ANY production car ever PERIOD. This car is a ten second quarter mile car right out the box at well over 131 MPH stock and can get you to sixty miles per hour in 3.4 seconds. Nuff said!! All hail the return of the King.

Your cousin is clearly an enthusiast ! His teacher may want to see a little less attitude with the thinly disguised double F-bomb.

Also, the 454 was introduced in model year 1970, not the 60s. Finally, it seems a bit remiss to not mention the L88 of 1967 - 1969 and the 1969-only ZL1. While only 216 L88s and 2 ZL1s were built, they were actual RPOs and could be ordered by anyone who wanted to and was willing to pay the price.

Nicely done with a few exceptions as mentioned. Also in #8 gm should be in caps. The LS9 in the ZR1 is not the same as the LS3 without a SC. There are substantial differences - but it is based on the LS3 casting. Also, how so you leave out the LT1 in the early 70s?

very cool for a teenager to have that kind of enthusiasm, I enjoyed reading. Just a small thing to add to the above, #9 I believe should be "ensure" not "insure". A+ from me

Honest opinion? Not too bad, but a few comments.

If this is supposed to be an article and not a message board post, then he needs to lose the chatspeak like "nuff said" and f-bombs. If I was his editor or teacher I'd send it back on that stuff alone. See if he can find a more creative way to say "FU", perhaps using car venacular like "eat my cam" or "put this piston where it hurts". Writing F%CK You - especially twice within the same paragraph is just lazy thinking.

All the information seems fairly OK. I'd like to see his opinion on why some he picked certain ranking and what his criteria for "badassness" is. Be careful about using a lot of "car jargon" if this is not specifically aimed at a car-type publication.

Also .. he should also add some conclusion at the end. Something to sum up what his 11 cars mean to him, or me, or the automotive public.

Overall though .. good job. They guy obviously knows his cars!

My .02!!

Hi guys this is Chris's cousin Steve. I wrote the article and I wanted to apologize for the mistakes. Thank you for all the corrections and opinions and I truly appreciate the input. Yea I knew some of my info would probably be wrong because I wrote this off the top of my head but I did not turn anything in yet.

See this is not for a grade or even a project really. My teacher helps his students put together almost like a magazine for teenagers. Freedom of speech is fine and even some curse words as long as it is trying to get a point across and not just for the hell of it. Also not excessive and in tone. It is all about what they find interesting or cool. Some people choose to write about video games or sports or anything they found themselves spending time enjoying. That is why I used some of the lingo and terms I used, I guess I was trying to be edgy Anyway I love all your guys cars and I just wanted to say thanks for all the feedback!! I will correct the wrong info before finishing my piece and I will add a conclusion. I hope to be a owner and member one day also Thanks

Steve

There are some errors in HP/torque. The std 08 LS3 w/ sports exhaust produces 428lft of torque, NOT 430lbft as the article says. There may be other errors the author can easily fix. The tone of the article overall is a bit in your face, perhaps making claims to justify superiority. IMO, substance speaks for itself, and race competition defines superiority - words are empty.

Steve, You seem to have some talent for writing and I suggest you explore that for the future. Yes, some of the facts needs to be fixed, but you are right on when it comes to the overall content in relation to what you were trying to get across to the reader, at least in my view. It was a pleasure to read and Thank You for taking the time to create it.

Steve,

you remind me of me at your age. I think the C4 LT1 came out in 1992. I can see you in your own Vette in a few years. Maybe your uncle will let you drive his! Respect the power. We want you around for a long time.
