The biggest problem is that most people don't even want to admit to them. I've known an awful lot of people who have modded their car and have spend a lot of time and money fixing what went wrong.

Actually, I've been there myself. But it wasn't a Corvette and it was before Al Gore invented the internet, so I don't have to own up to it either

Only one big one, but it was the vendor's fault , so it is out of bounds in your thread.

Yea I can relate to mods gone wrong in the old days. I had a couple that we so bad I don't want to think about them! It's the reason my 06 engine is still completely stock right down to the tune! I have enough money to mod mine but not enough to start screwing around trying to fix a mod gone bad!

That's simply not in the cards anymore... Back when I was single, no home, no wife, no dogs.. no nothing I really didn't care what went wrong as long as I could get more power! What happened ... happened but not anymore! Just can't afford to play that game anymore....

Although this was on my C5, it still might help some of us with our 6's...I wanted more rear end gear on my 1998 A4 C5, so I went with 3.73's....although I got a lot more 'pop' off the line, it was almost too much, as it would even overcome the traction control. I lost 5 to 6 MPG on the highway and the RPM's at 75 to 80 MPH (2,700 to 2,800) just ruined the relaxed feeling the car used to have on the highway. I would NEVER do that again to a Covette. It was one of the biggest reasons I traded off the car, and the biggest reason that I am enjoying my current 2.56's.......... I hope the new owner of my C5 does not read this though.......
If you do go with gears, don't overdo it!!!!

Here are a few that I have kept track of.

Some are not outright "disasters" however all were either small or large headaches. Some were easy to manage, many were not.

I keep a list and from time to time, check the archives for other mishaps.

Bear in mind, that it is not all inclusive. The 2 known C6 Z06s which have gone up in smoke following nitrous installs are not listed.

One of the two early C6s which went up in flames following a header install which burned through a clutch line, is not listed.

Not all of the "poked a hole in my condenser" threads are included either. Vararam fitment issues are absent as well as some of the other "issues" associated with other mods.

I have kept this list for myself for a while and add to it periodically.

That's an impressive list ^^ I know of one - user error causes this one. Vararam install leads to a cut AC condenser.

I basically check out the shop that does the installs before doing them. No problems so far.

Mod gone bad? How about Vararam ingesting water and hydraulic lock / broken engine. THAT's happened several times in the relatively short period I've been on this forum and leads to catastrophic engine failure.

I included some even though they are minor, or user error, bone head mistakes such as my own breaking off a header bolt flush into the cylinder head.

Because even though they are minor, they would have been non existent had the owner just left the car the f^%$ alone and kept it stock.

Crap happens either way. My currently stock car popped a slave cylinder last week and was fixed by the dealer in 2 days. I disagree with you that you can't have reliable car and it be modded because I've had several.

I just don't understand your attitude things happen to modded car and stock cars. Where is your list of all the problems that happen to cars that have nothing to do with modded cars?

Every post I see you discourage people to modify there car and say "no matter what your car won't be a Z06" ,"you should've just purchased a Z06", "That is what happens when you modify". The reason I come here is to get idea's on mod's and to have a discussion with people and tuners who actually have done it. I would not come here to look at stock cars all day long and listen to someone say if you modify your going to be sorry.

I am happy you love your Z06 bone stock. If I had one mine would not be. I could go out tomorrow and pick one up. I own my C6 outright and it would be easy to trade up but I love my coupe top. Depreciation currently is more on the Z06 and it just doesn't make financial sense for me.

I had a shop build a bass box. The put it over the driver cubby hole. It looked great but the first time I tried to store the targa I realized it would no longer fit in the back. I had to tear out the bass box.

Indeed, oft times the owners do delete these, or keep quiet about these issue.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2065723

There is another deleted post which describes a built engine, which lost it's crank pulley and the owner wound up having to have the car shipped back to the tuner at his own expense.

Perhaps you have the wrong idea, or simply have a beef with me, I don't know.

But nowhere in this thread have I said:"no matter what your car won't be a Z06", "you should've just purchased a Z06", "That is what happens when you modify".

In none of my posts have I bashed a vendor, nor attempted to "discourage" anyone from modifying their cars.

Nor have I said: "if you modify you're going to be sorry."

For those who wish to mod their cars, many are ready to accept the risks and potential issues of doing so. There was a time when I was. Indeed, I was about to mod my previos C6 further when I made the decision to get rid of it and buy my Z06.

Though my personal thoughts on the matter are not at issue here, I feel...indeed I know, that I could have saved myself a lot of headache had I left well enough alone. But thats not why I posted in this thread. I posted to give the thread starter what he was looking for.

We won't talk about my blown C5 transmission almost immediately following a torque converter install. Nor the upside down 02 bungs in a new X-pipe I received from one of the header manufacturers, this after the high flow cats went in short order in the original one.

The original poster asked:

Now what else did I do other than show him what he was asking for?????

I agree with him. Members do indeed need to be aware of modifications which did not work out as planned.

Why do you resent my pointing to some which did not???

Why are you so quick to throw down the gauntlet???

Indeed, $#** does happen. As it did to me when I popped that header bolt. Mistakes can be made. Some of this stuff could have happened to anyone. Some is nobody's fault, and I have not once attempted to assign blame here. Just as the original poster requested that we do not.

And S#** can and does happen to a completely stock car as well.

I am glad to hear that modding your cars have been successful endeavors for you. Not all have had your successful experiences as can be seen from some of the threads I linked to.

I have modded every previous Vette that I have owned. For me personally, and I am not trying to speak for anyone else, adding performance modifications is not worth the effort and headache for me any longer.

But thats neither here nor there. I gave the original poster examples of what he was asking for.

And I pointed out, that over the months that I have followed these types of posts, it has given me an appreciation for the approach that I have decided to take at this point in my latest Corvette ownership.

Nothing more, nothing less.

If people wish to modify their cars, then the way I see it, its their car and their money. I have nothing to do with that.

But as the original poster stated, "I think it would be benefical to others and interesting to hear about mods gone wrong." I agree with him.

Why do you think its a bad thing for people to be aware of these type issues which have occured and been described right here on this board???

Why do you think that a person who shows links to these issues is a bad guy???

Look at how you worded this. IMO it says if your going to mess with a stock car then you are going to pay dearly. Also why would you be collecting a long list of threads of people having problems with mod's that is just crazy? It must be saved in your computer somewhere so you can pull them out whenever someone has something go wrong.

Have you ever scene the character "Debbie Downer" on SNL?

Wicked ...back at ya BTW - If everyone keep their car stock, there would be no car shows, I love those dam* things...
