Seriously, do a search. There are over 1.3 million threads on this subject alone. If you like arrows and annoying false alarms get the V1, If you like a radar detector with GPS built in to lockout annoying false alarm locations, but no arrows, get the passport 9500i. All the rest basically SUCK!! Here we go, round 6,975.....LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!

Car and Driver does an annual radar detector test. Since the V1 came out around 1994 C&D has said in every one of their tests that the V1 was so much better than the competition that they put it in a class by itself, at the top.Have not seen their test for this year.

I don't understand the nonsense about false hits with the V-1!
I had my 5 year-old V-1 updated, (cost: approx. $200), and I get NO false hits, and it is super-accurate.
It is the best.....period.
Desert Dog
Congrats how do you like living in the country? Come on, I owned a V1, it had so many false alarms, I wouldn't even have it turned on in the city anymore. With all the false alarms, you start to zone out all the alarms, then one time it isn't a false alarm and...
They are super accurate, but so are the Passports.
There is a thread on here somewere that I read the V1 outperforms all the rest. The 9500i and then the 8500 series came in next.
IN EVERY EVENT...the V1 was on top!!!!!
I STILL LOVE MY 9500i
I have read that thread and on some tests yes, it does, and some it doesn't, but nowhere did I read it was so good they put it in a class by itself.
The one thing you have to remember is these top brands detect so early that the extra distance that one might beat the other by is so far in advance of getting picked up by the radar that it is meaningless.
$200 and a trip back to V1 for an update and loss of detector for who knows how long, how's that work out for you? The 9500 has a UBS port and the updates are free and you download them off your computer. It's called "Latest technology", something the V1 is falling behind on.

Racer44,
Im sure you can access the detector tests through C&D's website. If I can find some of my older C&D issues with the tests, I'll post the dates. If memory serves me right they run the annual test around September each year. The arrows on the V1 are one of the MOST important features for me. Too many times knowing WHERE he is, was the only thing that saved me. Also according to C&D and the Virginia state police, the V1 is the only detector that is invisible to their "radar detector, detector". But I respect your difference of opinion, after all we can disagree.

It's not the only radar detector that is invisible to radar detector detectors. I believe this feature is called VG2 protection and is on quite a few dtectors now.
If you don't have the arrows you have no idea where the threat is coming from. RDs without arrows are irrelevant.
Ok, I have got to ask this question. What possible value are the arrows? If you are driving along and it lights up with an arrow pointing forward, what do you do? Slow down, perhaps. If the arrow is pointing left, what do you do? Slow down, perhaps. Ok, what if the arrow is pointing back, what do you do? Slow down, perhaps. Or maybe you speed up with this one to get away.
Be honest, what do the arrows accomplish other than make you start looking in that direction?
