A couple of C5 and C6 buddies and I were discussing restoration and we couldn't find the answer to this: What is the difference in a "clone" car and a "tribute" car restoration?
A "CLONE" resto is a car pieced together, let's say a Z28 that was not delivered as a Z28. the #'s don't match, may not even be the right type of engine. a tribute car is like the last "stingray" If you saw the pics really all they had was the engine, frame, birdcage, and some of the body. the car was a mess! but they hand made parts and even used some after market parts but they put the car back to the way it was when it was "born" even true to the factory overspray and such, hence they do a "tribute" to the car and it's makers

They are the same thing. A fake car to look like a classic.

The only difference between a "clone" and a "tribute" is MARKETING! A "clone" is bad, a "tribute" is awesome and a "replica" is somewhere in the middle unless the "replica" is a "kit car" then that's an entirely different animal.
Would a Corvette that has been totaled then become a "Tribute" car, thus a "fake" Corvette because it has some different OEM parts than when it went down the production line?

no, but it didn't start out as a Yukon, either. in the world of restored anything, it depends on the "faithful-ness" of the restoration. that goes for a lot of old, or older things such as antiques.
in the totaled Corvette's case, it's still a Corvette, a repaired Corvette. was it originally? yes. is it still? yes. is it all original? no.
it's not a clone or fake or tribute of anything, in my opinion. your opinion may be different however.
