Average Fuel Economy guage not working
My Average Fuel Economy works fine when I am driving. But then after I shut it off and start the car up again, the guage often indicates a lower MPG than when I shut off the car. It usually jumps down about 1.0 MPG. It doesn't happen every time but it is often enought that it is noticeable. Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a remedy? Also, I don't know if this is related or not, but sometimes my left front bulb works and sometimes it doesn't, this is directly correlated with how fast or slow my left hand blinker flashes. I hope there isn't a short somewhere!

I will take a shot. Just opinion and I am not sure about the facts here. For the gauge, if you are using gas and not moving then it will effect your fuel economy. I lost 1mpg the other day just at idle waiting for parade lap at mid ohio. 1mpg seems a little high, but you said sometimes. Also this could easily happen if you were say getting 32mpg at the end of your last run?
I would think the flasher would work as a function of the load. When the light works the load is different than when the light does not work. It will cause a different flasher speed. In the old days, the flasher might not work at all on one bulb. Check the socket the bulb is in??

I don't know. I previously had a TBSS and there was never this sudden jump when I turn it off. I don't reset it often nor leave it idling and I have been keeping a very close eye on it lately. It is about a 1.0 MPG jump down every three startups or so. Would it be wise to reset the whole system by disconnecting the battery? I would then have to reset all my preferences and presets, but I don't know what else to do.

When you push the reset button, that resets it. So disconnecting the battery or whatever won't do anything. The reset button is all there is. When you push it, the system starts at zero and measures fuel consumption and mileage from then on...until the next time you push the reset button. Make sense?

I would think there might be an issue if you did not reset for some long period of time and it changed by 1 mpg on every start. After a reset, the system needs time to accumulate some miles to do an average. For example, if I reset and coast down the inserstate hill near my house I am getting 60 mpg until I need to climb the next hill. If you have not reset in several tanks of gasoline then I would wonder.

Digging up old thread.
I've noticed the same thing. Albeit this is a brand new to me car, but it seems like the difference is way more than 1 mpg.
Ex. today. Reset the avg, drove 15 miles on the highway averaged about 29mpg. Took exit, about 1 mile and parked. I did not not the average then, but I'd guess in the low 20s at worst. Startup after 2 hours -> 12mpg.
So no one else has seen this? I'll have to pay more attention, but it's bizzare.
