Default C6 info needed

Sold the C5 several months ago now I'm thinking of a C6.
Before I spend time figuring the right car I need an education on the
C6. I know I can count on the forum members as always for the best information.

Best year from 05 to 08?
Ls2 ? LS3 engine?
1-2-3 LT packages?
z51 package?
Axle ratio?
mild to wild tips?
Does the navi work like my garmin, meaning do I need a CD to update etc?

I like a coupe with nav, manual, no black or blues or Zo6, two tone seating, transparent glass, hud was nice on my C5,
What price should I expect for a C6 with good options, lower miles, maybe some warrenty left.

Thanks
John

They finally fixed the steering in 2008: it actually gives some road feel.

Consensus seems to be the nav system is very poor -- keep your Garmin.

The lower axle ratio will cost you about 1 mpg but really brings the car to life.

Most seem to find the Z51 package gives excellent handling and a reasonable ride. Depends on how bad your roads are and how far you plan to drive. You might consider the F55. You can (it's said) pretty easily upgrade to the Z51 sway bars and still have the option of a more comfortable ride.

I have an '07 1LT and am delighted with it. Saying that, I suspect most responding to your post will recommend the later LS3-powered cars that start with the '08 model. I understand both the steering and the shifting were improved for '08 as well, but haven't driven one yet and I have no issues with my '07.

The down side, for some, is I do not believe you can get an '08 without On-Star or Sat radio. Might not be an issue for some.

I'm happy with my 1LT, but there are a couple of things I would have liked from the 3LT package, but to me they aren't worth paying over $5K for the package just to get HUD. I really don't need audio controls on the steering wheel or heated memory seats. I also don't understand the fascination with NAV, but if you drive long distances or tend to get lost just finding your way home, I guess it's practical.

Go with an '08 if possible. Factory Nav is a personal preference. I use a Garmin. I usually go with a 2LT for a more reasonable cost.but here again, options are like anything else. It's all in the eyes of the beholder.

In todays market I would think 38 to 40 would get you a nice used '08 coupe. The steering is better and the HP is up a little. I do think you would like the NPP with the M2W fob

Manuals are much rarer than automatics. With the manual there is only one factory axle ratio 3.42 to 1.

Besides HUD the only thing I would like are the better seats. In the summer the 1lt seats are a little sweaty on the back side, I think
the perforated seats would solve that.

I agree with Doug, above, but understand completely last90's comments. It is a helluva lotta car for a 1LT.

Presume you're asking about an automatic trans car by the axle ratio reference?

Re price, it varies but what you're asking about is a fully loaded car for any year. Take a look at autotrader.com and at cars.com. That will give you some indication of asking prices. Then, take a look at cars for sale in C6. That will be maybe the top end of pricing.

Really, the variation from years you mention, '05 to '08 could be dramatic, as in $10K or more. But it could be less, depending on how far you're willing to travel and when you actually get serious about buying the car, not that you're not serious right now.

-I agree with last901. The hud was nice on my C5 but the heated seats and the other options where no big deal and not worth the extra money.
-I like the sport seats so the LT2 package sounds good.
-The gear ratio is the same on all manuals so that's okay
-I guess the navi is out, I can use my garmin. I get lost alot in NJ especially if I try to take a short cut around traffic.
-Serveral members wrote the 08 has improved steering and road handling, will an 05 thru 07 Z51 handle as good as an 08?

Thanks again for you help

Will it handle as well? On a road course, SCCA, or HPDE, probably a little worse. On the street, you will be hard pressed to know/feel the difference. So, the long answer is, imo, yes, the '08 is better in some respects, but you won't be able to test it to the limit on the streets.

If the difference betw. buying a car you can comfortably afford and buying one that "the forum sez you should buy" and go in over your financial limits, don't buy what we say!!!! No kidding.

An '07, '06, '05 is an excellent example of a Corvette. You will not be going wrong. The typical advice on CF has been, buy the newest model year you can afford. Stress: "you can afford."

You've already nixed out some costly items, like auto trans, nav., heated seats, etc. So, you're coming down on total price (that's at least $3K + at MSRP option prices). This may, MAY allow you to buy a one year newer car. You'll find out tho.

I have the NAV in my '07 3LT and use a Garmin in my daily driver. Lot's of members don't like the factory Nav; it is expensive and a Garmin Nuvi will work as well and easier. I happen to like the factory Nav. I'd get it again. It integrates with the HUD, and uses the sound system for voice. Another feature is voice command which is handy only in a few situations.

2005 & 2006 model year cars have a 3 yr warranty. 2007-present have a 5 year warranty. Try to find a car that has been "unmolested."

I have an 07 but I say get the 08 for the LS3. Z51, MN6 would be a must if it were me.

Due to the recent rumors of horespower cut backs, Id say go with the 08 and LS3 just for that. Pretty soon, people will be appreciating the higher HP cars when the fuel pinchers start being produced. just my .02worth!

I don' really 'need' or even use all the 3LT stuff, but for me I like having them if I want to use them I can. My preference is 'full loaded' on everything. I just like the creature comforts. Never had a 'keys and heater' optioned car in my life. The navi is poor compared to others in the market, but its intergration into the hud, makes a big difference.
