Default 2008 Console Install Problem

I had the front console in my 2007 replaced last week with a 2008 as many have in the forum.
I am having a problem with the console making a cracking noise when driving over an uneven surface. It seems to flex. The noise is next to the Nav unit on the pass. side.
Did any of you having the same problem after it was replaced and what have you done to correct it? Thanks for any help.

My only suggestion would be that around each opening in the dash, where the clips that are on the console go through, there are plastic pieces that look like they are there to stop any squeeking between clip and hard plastic. These pieces are square and go around each hole. They are like thick saran wrap. Make sure all of them are in place...they can get moved around when doing the R and R of the console.

I would check for interference where the leather wrap surround meets the passenger side trim panel just infront of the ebrake handle. Something is not installed right. Your car should not be making that noise. The area I mentioned above would be my first choice for an interference fit. Second, would be the wiring behind the ash tray. They may have not put the wires back in properly and they could be wedged between the ashtray and the data module which would cause the console surround to be not quite seated.

Thanks. I am having it reinstalled next week and I will make sure it's seated properly.

The piece that Talon 90 is referring to has a grove that needs to be widened a bit to allow the leather covered console to fit in. All it takes is some time, a file, and utility knife to shave the grove bigger. I helped STEVEMC to put one in my 05 last week and he did his about 3wks before.

Good Luck

Where exactly is the grove? Sounds like this might be the problem. It is very tight on the passenger side oppsite the glove box. Thought it was the gap between the Nav unit and the console. Is it the trim piece along the console under the emergency brake boot?

There is a molded groove at the back end and at the front end there is a sort of a clamp piece with three screws. The screws can be loosened a bit to achieve a good fit. The rear, molded grove can only be widened by using a file. That said, my 08 GM console fit this piece fine. My DSV piece with good leather took a bit of work to make fit right owing to the good leather being a bit thicker.
