I am picking up my '09 from the NCM on 8/8/08 and was curious about everyones opinions on the front nose masks/bras. I plan on ordering a set of mudflaps for the trip, but was curious on everyones opinions on the masks/bras. I will be driving ~850 miles (KY to Magnolia, TX). Are they worth it or will the front be fine after a good wash once home? anyone make a similar distance trip without one?

The thing to worry about is rock chip damage. Driving through construction can be dangerous too. I'd put one on if it were me.
If you can find anyone to apply a 3M transparent bra in Bowling Green, SPEND THE TIME AND MONEY!!
You're going to be driving 55 mph and under for the first 500, so the risk of rock chips is lower -- but not zero -- for that portion of the trip. If I were you I think I'd at least try to pick up one of those "nose lingerie" masks just for the trip home. Either that or use painter's blue tape and some butcher paper to mask off the front fascia, front half of the hood, and maybe the fronts of the two side mirrors. Yeah, it'll be ugly, but rock chips will happen, and it would be a shame to get nailed by some semi on your way home.
I did almost the exact same miles, with some trepidation. But as it turned out, taking as many small back roads as possible, and only some highway where needed, it was all ok. If you're really worried, I say buy one of the used vinyl bras for sale in Parts C6 for about 65 and be done with it. At that price, if you never use it again, and resell it on C6 you can probably get 50 or 40 for it.
Call Gary Cockriel or Lori at the museum, they have a great one! I picked up my 08 coupe 5-19 at the NCM and purchased the nylon stretch bra and stretch side mirror covers from them for a 600 mile trip back to Va. Worked like a charm and rolls up and fits in the back cubby of the car. Attaches very easy and snaps into place each time you want to use it. I think the costs for the nylon bra from Gary was 125.00 or so and the mrrors were 50.00 or so. Definitely worth it! Make sure you call them ahead of time to ensure Gary has one. Your delivery guy will give you a screw driver and you can install it in the delivery bay there in the museum, takes 10 minutes tops. Good luck!!!!!
Pick up the GM bra for around $95.00, that will give you the protection you are looking for. You can use it again for any future trips.
GM bra fits and looks great. I bought a different brand before my trip to BG. When I got the vette, I tried for an hour to get it to fit, but the plastic clips kept coming off and the little bungies just wouldn't line up. I drove to Charlotte NC then to Richmond VA w/o a bra. I consider myself very lucky to have had no damage. I got the GM bra in Richmond and it went on in a few minutes. Drove all the way home to CA with it on and had no paint or other damage from the bra.
Picked mine up at the museum on the 16th, 550 miles on the way home to Michigan. 90% back roads. Lots of bugs and no stone hits, probably lucky. Having the 3M bra and mirror protectant put on this week. Good luck and enjoy the car!!!

yep
I ran "Naked" all the way home -675 miles- and have 2250 miles so far with no marks. But I guess its only a matter of time. The GM bra is nice & priced right, just dont think a black bra is appealing on Victory Red.
Congratulations. I picked up my 08 on 08/08/07, one year earlier, to the date. I drove 2,400 miles back to California without a bra. I simply stayed way back from the trucks and 4x4's, and tried to stay on major roads. I made it without any rock chips whatsoever, which really amazed me. However, I did have to scrape off about three pounds of bugs when I got home. Congratulations on your new ride, take your time at the factory and enjoy the experience, and have a great ride home.
