Default Bikes and Vettes

For those of you that have motorcycles, does having one of those make your vette less exciting? I mean I don't want to get a bike and then neglect my vette cause the bike is more fun. Someone give me some advice on this subject?

both have a place and both provide a different experience. only issue is deciding which toy to play with - a tough decision that I thoroughly enjoy having to make! so many toys and so little time .........

I, too, have both. 2002 HD Road King Classic to be exact... I find that I ride the bike less often and am even thinking (GAH!) about selling it. I agree, it's a different experience. I find I can get the same or close to the same level of exiliaration with the vette, but complete with tunes! We'll see how it works out, but the bike would go before the vette for sure.

It's funny, my son asked me last night if I was gonna get a bike. I would love to have one, but I just have so much fun with my Corvette....I really don't need one.

Yet.

upgrade to a new ultra classic and that will fix the tunes issue

I have both too, My 2006 Vette and my 2005 Suzuki GSX R-1000
To totally different feelings, two totally different rushes when you get on it. I wouldn't trade either one for the other. I'm glad that I am fortunate enough to have two amazing machines.

Just sold my bike....

It was modded, and super fast. A blast to ride and thrilling on the right roads.

BUT I would never compare it to a Vette. Bikes are fast, but they are also very dangerous, and require your focus and concentration at all times just to stay out of harms way. Riding one correctly also takesskill and technique which most people never aquire....

I had one to many encounters with random patches of sand, wet leaves, rocks, merging minivans, etc.

Nice bike. Is that your outfit of choice for all your rides, or were you headed to a track event?

Good gear, everytime you ride is very important. I cant tell you how annoying it is to see people riding around in shorts and T shirts.

I like driving the Vette more than the bike now. Before the Vette, I would be on the bike almost every day off. However, since the bike now sits in front of the Vette in the garage, I have to pull the Vette out to get the bike out. What usually happens is I start to pull the Vette out and keep going... so the bike doesn't make it out that day....

I have three vehicles that are weekend only, recreational vehicles...

Corvette - about 5,000 miles a year

Honda Goldwing (only ride when two-up) - about 5,000 miles a year

Yamaha FJR1300 - about 12,000 miles a year.

Any more questions?

For track times, but I do always wear jacket helmet gloves and motorcycle type jeans that are more reinforced. If I'm going out in the everglades and going to be getting on it in the winter, (cooler weather ) I'll wear leathers. I have so much motorcycle gear. I agree the boneheads in shorts no shirt no helmet are asking for it.

Cars are slow. The Vette is great for taking off the top and going for a ride.
But the bikes are another story. Crack the throttle at 120 and have the front wheel paw at the air as you exit a corner. Where 9 second 1/4s are quite easy for a good rider. Even my Sport tourer will eat the Vette alive.

BUT the Vette is the next best thing to a bike. A bike keeps you young and alert.

also depends on the bike... I've seen MANY 600's taken by cars on both mountain roads and straight line contests at the top end.

I would bet that if it was between something like a modified EVO and a 600cc sport bike on a twisty road, with average drivers, the car would come out on top, or the rider would lay it down trying to keep up

That's funny. Just today someone at work asked if I had sold my bike and if not when was I going to ride to work again.
I guess I have been having too much fun with the vette. Also doesn't help that I got a whole new stereo system couple
of weeks ago.

I have both also, and I am driving my Vette more than the bike this summer because it is new, but it doesn't make Vette driving less exciting. Having both, you can choose how you get your driving kicks.

There is no doubt that a car has an advantage in a corner because of the relatively huge contact patches. But all I have to do is just hang with or even lose ground and the power to weight will destroy almost any car that can be driven on the road.
I don't have a 600, I do have a 1000 that you shift out of first at 106 mph, lofts the front wheel at 120, and approx 162 rear wheel horsepower with approx 400 lbs. Do the math.

This is about Vettes also and I am a die hard bike fan, but my Vette satisfies me nicely when 4 wheels are required. It's performance is awesome in the context of how and were I drive it. And sometimes comfort is of the essence and comfort with exceptional performance is just what the Vette does best.

Yes the bikes have great acceleration, especially 1000's... But like you mentioned you have to scrub speed earlier and pick your apexes very carefully where as (like you mentioned) the additional rubber and balance of 4 wheels on a car allow them through the turns at a faster rate (4+ feet of rubber on the ground)...

Bikes are great though. Especially on a nice summer day with a scenice drive and no cars around.

What would you guys suggest as a good sport bike to start out with. This will be my first bike so I am thinking around a 600 maybe? What's the oldest year of bike I should get? How many miles? Salvaged?

I am just novice.
