Do not waste money on Mobil 1. Goto your local parts store and get Redline, Royal purple, German castrol or order Amsoil.
Then goto Walmart and have them change it. They charge 9 dollars to put in customer supplied oil and filter. It'll run you 54 dollars using RP and having it changed at Walmart.

I agree. ALL of my vehicles use Amsoil, I pay about the same or less for top of the line oil, compared to other people who pay to have it done at a shop.
I take pride in knowing the fluids going in are top notch, and the service is done with full attention to detail.

You really can't go wrong with a Group 4 oil that i listed above. Stay as far away from Mobil 1 as you can.
This is the only forum on which I've ever read people writing negatively about Mobil 1. I've used it in all my vehicles for years with great results. Yet, no one here seems to have any concrete facts about Mobil 1 being a bad oil.
Call me whatever you want to call me...but I'd recommend going with the GM recommended oil (Mobil 1 5W-30).
Changing it yourself is definitely the way to go. If you take it somewhere to have it done, make sure they know Corvettes and watch them like a hawk. There's nothing difficult about doing the oil change but it amazing how many posts there have been here about cars being overfilled or being damaged (i.e. cracked rocker panels) by clueless or careless mechanics.

To each their own I guess....
If you like the other oils better, that's cool -- there's lots of good oils out there besides Mobil1.
However, if you have some _hard evidence_ that M1 is bad oil, we'd all love to see it.
Mobil1 has been flawless for me for the last 15 years or so, and I haven't seen anything that would convince me to switch from the OEM recommended fill.
The walmart monkeys aren't THAT bad. Just watch them drive it in and pour it in.. Done.
As for M1.. Go to LS1tech or bobistheoilguy.com and do some reading about the quality of M1 vs Amsoil, RP, German castrol and redline. It's Garbage
EDIT - I'll post up somethings after work tonight. Here are some video's/article's i've found on the web.
"It is hard to believe that oil alone can generate power and had we not performed the testing ourselves we wouldn't believe it either. By swapping out the factory oil with five quarts of Royal Purple 5W-30 weight synthetic oil the Mitsubishi peak power increased to 300.9 horsepower, a stunning increase of 7.2 horsepower. Looking at the dyno curve you can see that the engine was able to generate more power throughout the powerband from beginning to the end. The Royal Purple oil reduced friction allowing the engine to produce more power."
