I brought my 08 in yesterday for an oil change, and to get the nav radio looked at because it wasn't playing MP3 cd's like it should... They called this morning and apparently (according to them) the car isn't equipped with an MP3 CD player. According to the service guy, after pulling up the build sheet for it, it doesn't say anything about having mp3 cd capabilities. My question for you guys, are there two different versions of the nav system (one with and one without mp3 cd player capabilities)?
side note: The user manual for the navigation talks like I should have the capability.
I would hesitate in believing that answer. There are threads for this. The mp3s need to be burned in a certain format for the player to recognize it....let me dig it up and I'll PM you.
Thanks for the replies, I agree it should work, I have tried ~20 different formats and I have read many threads regarding the mp3cd player. Since none of them have worked, I assume that it is an issue with the player, and not in my many formatting techniques. (All of which work in other mp3cd players I have tried).
I was one of the first to get a Nav and originally it wouldn't play MP3s. Then they came up with upgraded firmware and now it plays them just fine. Your dealer is FOS.

Thats pretty much what I figured, any suggestions on how I should proceed?

Get a copy of an mp3 disc from someone whose car will play it correctly, then try it and you will know whether it is your discs or the player. I'm out of town for a week, but would be happy to send you one if you don't get one somewhere else in a week. Maybe someone on here who lives close by.....
It definitely has MP3 capability, It's just that the software sucks big time. I gave up trying formats, and just keep hitting the NEXT up song until it plays one. They put all their money in performance.....which is alright with me! I just put regular CD in.
Ok, so the dealer has confirmed that it should have the ability to play them, they haven't figured out why it doesn't yet, but I atleast know that when I get my car back it will have MP3 playback...
The only times I seem to have real trouble with MP3s is when I burn them at speeds faster than 8x. My PC will read the CDs just fine, but other MP3 players will not. I'm guessing that's because of my burner, but I'm not in such a hurry that I can't burn slower. Also, it's got to be a CD and NOT a DVD. I'd love it if I could have MP3s on a DVD. One disk would last me a month!!!!
They fix one problem and come up with another where there was none.
It finally works, they told me they were just fiddling around with it and it started working (thats comforting)... Anyway, from what I can tell it has nothing to do with how I was burning them, because I burn them now and they work fine... oh well it works now
