Stuff only shows up on car fax if the shop reports it. I have a 05 F-150 and 05 civic both of which have had major body work. A buddy looking for a used car bought a month of unlimited checks. I had him run my vehicles and neither showed up. If I was buying used I would not count on having an accident free car just because car fax says it was clear.
Dealership said the Z06 glass was even more expensive, but we couldn't figure out why. We were guessing the moldings were different because of the fixed roof.
The windshield fitted onto the Z06 is thinner and lighter than the regular C6. I think the rear glass is thinner/lighter also. Don't know about the sides however...

wrong, dot safety regs wont allow thinner glass, windshield must retain strength, integrity for collision or rolloverrace car performance ,but not a race car.
w/heads up & w/GPS: your price 683.80 msrp 891.50
w/heads up & w/o GPS: your price 760.50 msrp 991.50

I don't know about shipping costs, but I think they would have to be high. They are not shipped UPS or USPS by any means.
hi , i share your plight, I own a 06 Zo6 and earlier this year found myself behind one rickety pickup truck with a bouncy trailer w/rocks on it. one rock about the size of a silver dollar bouced of and nicked my windshield. within days that spidered out from l/h side to r/h side. Cost fro replacement amounted to $1650.00 with $566.00 out of my pocket expense. I now greatly distance myself from picktrucks and trucks in general. i too was shocked at the cost of replacement windshield. I had one estimate at over $1750.00 i almost went into shock.
Wow, you got a Z and did not know to stay clear of anything that looked like it was hauling anything? Sorry to hear about the damage. That sucks.
carfax is a joke. you can have multiple wrecks on a car and it will not show up. Insurance payouts do not trigger a carfax record in Texas.
Agreed, CarFax means nothing. Its up to the shop to submit it to CarFax. Most shops do not report anything. Your Insurance will not go up as stated, if so...argue it.
Regarding carfax - a couple years ago I saw a 2000 C5, clean carfax record (and qualified for "buyback")... no visible frame damage and drove straight, but clearly had some major work done (the passenger side foglamp was bent back 45 degrees! didn't even replace it or try to even straighten it on the bracket) - but much more including:
- Passenger side front fender replaced (noticed difference in fender top edge/underhood shims and screws)
- Passenger side wheelhouse replaced (no sticker on it under hood a tipoff - looking behind wheel showed whoever bonded the new one on the frame rail did such a sloppy job it looked like they used their bare hands to smear on the adhesive)
- big gap variance in Rear facia to hatchback gap (and gaps between rear wheels to finder had 1/4in appx difference - wheel alignment/toe, etc. checked to spec - but very noticeable) - I think the rear tub had been replaced also... (and different screw head types on topside/inside fender/facia retaining screws - odd shims used, etc.)
- uneven gaps (big difference side to side) at the halo bottoms (shimming rear fender topside edge attempts to hide that)
- Some underside (rear fender area) missing screws/support brackets. (1 rear wheel liner support bracket missing)
- A Total repaint (glances down some surfaces showed a spot with heavy clearcoat buildup at an edge/transition on the rear hatch, one clearcoat run, and some overspray fog at inside door edges, etc. - although just walking around it looked nice.)
I put ZERO faith in Carfax (or other similar services) accident/repair accuracy...
BTW - checking the title showed a sales tax paid amount (from 2003 sale) that clearly indicated it was sold in 2003 for less than the asking price in 2006...

Actually, the _C5_ fixed roof coupe and Z06 windsheild *was* thinner/lighter than the glass used on the targa/conv -- 5.5mm vs. 6.0mm thick if I remember correctly (?). But I haven't heard that the C6 Z06 glass is any different than the coupe/conv.
The price of the windshield has come down since last year. I checked into a replacement windshield because of some rock chips (nothing major). I checked all the local glass places, and the cheapest I found here in my area (the People's Republic of Minnesota) was about $2200 installed! If it's come down to around $1600 or so, that's better. It's still a ripoff, though.
I don't believe the Z06 has any different glass than the C6 or Vert - they use the same glass on the assembly line, so far as I can tell. They certainly didn't have a separate Z06 glass line in BG.
There is a difference between HUD and non-HUD glass - the HUD glass has a more highly polished polycarbonate sheet between the glass layers to allow for more reflectivity from the HUD. That's it. There is no earthly reason for it to be radically more expensive than regular glass.
If the fix it joints are anything like they were 15 years ago,it's one price for cash and a whole other ballgame for insurance. Now,I don't know that HUD makes any difference because there are guys on here who've installed it in their 1 LT cars AND DID NOT DO A THING to their windshields.

Everyone seems to think that a car fax reports almost every damage/repair that happens to a car, when it only guarantees records when a car is salvage or flood damaged or when it was sold and how many miles there were when it was sold. I bet alot shady places don't even report flood or frame damage.

zo6 not lighter, convertible thicker for support to the frame because of lack of support no roof etc.again dot regs wont allow thin glass in any car that is for public use on highways ,most cars are 5.5 mm for weight savings for fuel mileage not performance, been that that way since mid 70s to late 70s.also thinner glass is cheaper its all about the numbers also the vinyl layer plays a part in overall thickness, not just the glass.
I just had one replaced (HUD & GPS) and it only cost $683. Seems like a great price to me considering I'm in Alaska and everything costs more up here. Geico recommended I go to Safelite which I did. Before the install I made sure they had the correct windshield. Total cost to me = $50. It seems to be a little better glass as I've already taken a couple of small rocks and no nicks or chips yet.
10 years ago I replaced a windshield on a Dodge minivan and it cost the insurance $1200. It would have been less than half that cost if I had just paid cash, according to the glass shop. Since then I have had 2 other windshields replaced and I got the same story. About half if you paid for it yourself. Try it the next time you have to replace any glass. Ask how much intially if you are paying cash then tell them you have insurance. You would probably shocked in the markup to the insurance companies.
