Engine Noise
I've got a base 05 C6 automatic with a tad over 10K miles now. Sometimes on cold startup (I live in florida, so I'm talking 75F in the morning), the engine sounds almost like a diesel, but not nearly so loud or pronounced. I'm not talking lifter clicking, but more of a dull thumping sound - not a rattling sound. Sometimes I almost think its the exhaust, but I'm reasonably sure it is not because the noise goes away in a block or two. Should I be warming up the engine before I drive? Anyone else experience this? It's been there since it was new, but I've had other Vette's and many many Chevy small blocks (This is my first of the LS series) and never heard anything like it.

Check the crank pully. My 07 C6 made a pinging noise at cold start
(South FL) that stopped in a few miles. Required replacement of the pully and proper alignment of the belt to stop the noise.

Turn on the engine and observe the belt and crank pulley, some early '05s had a problem...Also could be pis
ton slap, but have heard that this was cured with LS2, certainly none on mine...
