owners manual also addresses racing or competitive driving and oil consumption. if you drive hard, expect some usage. if you don't drive it that hard, you may have an issue at 1 qt. per 1600 miles.

Failing to check the oil is not a good idea IMHO.
Same here. No usage.

Thanks for the responses. I drive about 10 miles to work everyday, about 45 - 50 mph. Perhaps a few trips on the weekends. The dealer said he could scan my highest rpm reading and that was 4500 rpm. During the week, I'm in traffic. On weekends, my eight year old daughter is riding copilot so theres no way I can get crazy with the car. 27K miles on the car now.

Prior to owning my 2005, I had a 1992 6 speed coupe. Same commute, and I put over 100 K miles on the car. Never added oil between changes.

Adding oil is cheap, that doesn't bother me. The engine does make noise around 2800 rpm under light acceleration and will go away at 3000 rpm. The noise will occur at higher rpm under heavier acceleration. The dealer replaced the torque tube bearing since it sounded like it was coming from the rear of the engine. It is most noticable with a cold engine, as it warms up the noise is reduced. I don't think there is a performance issue with the engine, but I have never run the car hard.

After the first oil consumption test, a compression and leakage test showed normal results. After the second consumption test a dye was added to check for leaks. No leaks. PCV valve was replaced. Dealer said there was no oil on plugs or throttle body. I have not verified that.

I followed breakin instructions to the letter. I picked the car up in Bowling Green and went thru the mountains on the way back to North Carolina. The add oil light came on when it was 1.5 qts low at the end of my first week with the car.

I have never seen the car smoke, either on acceleration or deacceleration. I do not use engine braking to slow the car.

When new, my LS2 used about 1 qt/1,800 miles. After the 5,000 mile mark, the oil consuption dropped to about 1 qt/4,500 miles.

I assume you are using the correct GM spec oil. Sometimes an oil consumption issue could be due to valve guide seals and not pistion rings.
