Yesterday while I was driving my DIC said that I had 40 miles before I ran out of gas. I realize that this is not a completely accurate gauge. I looked down for a second and when I looked back up it said "Low Fuel". My assumption would be that I have an approximate range of 39 miles but I'd love to verify my assumption.
If you want to really verify, get a gallon or two of fuel in a can and drive till you run out. You can compare the miles.
The calculation is not accurate enough to show a count down to zero (probably) which is why the DIC changes from range in miles to "Low Fuel'. I have only had that light once (when it was new and I was returning from getting a state sticker) and that time I put north of 17.5 gals in as I recall.
According to my delivery specialist at the National Corvette Museum, you NEVER want to run out of gas in your C6!
He stated that if you run the Corvette completely out of gas because of the design of the saddle tanks, they would have to tow your car to a Chevrolet dealer and prime the gas pump between the tanks.
This is typically a $350.00 charge.
There also exist the possibility of damage to the engine from sediment in the bottom of the tanks.

I don't know about all that, but I have heard that is not a good thing to run out of gas.
The pump on my Camaro (when it was stock) would burn up if you ran out of gas. The pump is kept cool by the submersion in the fuel. It was a $600 fix at the dealer on the Camaro. For the Vette? I'd guess $28,000 for the repair. There is a Corvette Tax to consider.
I highly recommend you take heed and get gas BEFORE you run out. Testing your pump in this manner can prove costly.
