Default White Stuff?

Heya!

I recently returned from a 2 week business trip. My vette is about a month old.

Opening the trunk I noticed part of the top rubber (near roof) came off (see pic), and there was a white stuff as well.

Both places do not seem correlated, but might be...

Any idea what is this thing? where did it come from? and should I spread it somewhere?

Here's a pic:

Thanks!

Looks like sealant or adhesive. Maybe for the hatch glass molding or the weather strip?

Forgot to mention that the car was under California sun during the two weeks I was away, so it might got hot. Fortunately, it is in a covered parking space now

Not sure what the white stuff is but the piece hanging down looks like the window molding. As that strip heats up it expands and when it has no more room it pops out. It has happened so often in my 2005 that I've gotten so I can put it back in from the driver seat at a stoplight. Maybe GM decided to try gluing it in, the 2005 molding is pressure fit. You can try trimming off a bit of one end, or just consider it a Corvette quirk and put it back when it pops out.

Was just a bit surprised about the strip popping out (although I've never seen it happen in any other car I had before - ever).

I was wondering what the white stuff is?

Any chance it is the silicon grease I saw mentioned in the forums?

Can't be bird ****. Car was sealed and it's a coupe (no access to that area even if roof is removed) - and it is 100% white.

So far, the strip hasn't popped again.

Still - no idea what is that white stuff...

Take a small dab of the white stuff and rub it between your fingers. If it's slippery, then it's grease. If it's sticky, then it's adhesive.

In either case, it is probably just excess material that has seeped out due to the heat the hatch was exposed to, so just clean it off as best you can and watch for it to happen again.

Funny story.

I was coming to a hard stop at a light after some "spirited" driving. There were ladies in a vehicle to my right. Being "cool" I glanced in their direction and caught a snake dangling behind me from my rear view mirror.

I freaked.

I realized what it was but by then, the damage had been done.

:o

Red Cell.
