Default Atomic Orange. Does ANYONE Like It?

Over and over I'm reading that forum members and Vette owners in general don't like the Atomic Orange color. The AO color thread in the FAQ has people saying it won't even last a year because it is difficult to color match the panels at the factory, it's unpopular, and is offered at an additional cost.

Often the dislike of AO is accompanied by, or in the context of, a comparison to Daytona Sunset Orange Metallic ... which everyone says is better.

People seem to think AO looks cheap or flashy.

I know color is subjective—and color threads are approached carefully so as not to offend anyone—but does anyone here actually like Atomic Orange? With or (if you're up to the challenge) without comparing it to DSOM.

I've never actually seen AO in person and I'm hoping a few of you can cheer me up about my color choice

It's ok, but if they offered DSOM as an option I highly doubt they'd sell a single AO C6. It's just kind of shallow and cheap looking.

I like it, and almost made AO my color of choice but decided to go with VR but I still think AO is a great color on the Vette.

Color....sigh.

Well, I couldn't disagree more. I LOVE AO and I'd get it in a hearbeat over DSOM. A good buddy of mine has a DSOM car and likes the AO better. Everyones mileage varies with color. Some hate yellow, some hate black, some hate red. Who gives a ****, get what YOU like.

Well, there were around 2,246 people last year that might be able to cheer you up.

I have a 07 AO that I absolutely love. In the sunshine it just pops. I have had more complements about the color than about anything else on the car. As far as I am concerned this the the color for the Corvette. All the other colors are muted and bland. I typically do not drive or like bright standout colors like AO. I am more of a Lemans Blue type but when I ordered my 07 there was a AO ZO6 in the showroom and comparing the colors I had to have AO. Enjoy it because many many people will complement you on it as you drive it around.

Don't even think twice about it. I tried very hard to get an 09 AO, but the numbers didn't make sense for my budget. I ended up with an 08 VR.

The AO is one of the best colors in the sun. Be confident that you made a great choice and who cares what other people say. They aren't paying for it and if you like it, then that's all that matters. Congrats on your purchase.

I love AO! DSOM is nice too but it is a bit darker. AO hides the dirt well and is not as in your face as VR or VY IMHO. I love Black but never again will I own a black car. One marriage in my life is more than enough. I do not like JSB but LMB, Electron Blue along with Navy Blue Metallic are my favorite colors. Too bad none of those is offered on the vette anymore. Silver is nice but every 4 out of 5 cars on the road today seems like it is silver so I ruled it out. If AO were not available I probably would have gone for Crystal Red. I never even considered White. I considered VY but a vette draws enough attention, a YV vette draws even more. I've liked the GM orange since I saw it on a 2002 Camaro. Now it was Sunset Orange Metallic but they are pretty close until you see them side by side and then it is very clear that DSOM is more brown than AO.

All in all I'm very happy with my decision. When I go to car shows I'm typically the only vette in AO although I have seen an AO Z06 at a few shows. I get more people walking up to me and saying "Wow, I love that color" than you'd imagine. Even the guys in my car club. When we have a meeting I'm the only AO in the lot. I like being different. And just as an FYI 09 will be the third year of AO. 2007 it was a tint coat but it made it through 08 and is still on 09's. They may kill it for 2010 as Cyber Grey will surely replace one of the colors but that's OK as my vette gets rarer still.... Be happy with your choice

You can't even compare DSOM to AO. Thats like comparing apples and oranges. AO looks washed out, dull and cheap.
DSOM shouldn't even be used in the same sentence as AO. They're not even close. DSOM just POPS especially in the bright sunshine.
And yes, its all subjective. Just my .02.

I don't take any offense at your statements and questions.

But the color is already into its 3rd model year, so I guess it will last at least from GM's view. Even the much-loved Le Mans Blue lasted 3 years.

Daytona S Orange is just the big brother of Atomic.

I don't think owners are thought of as being cheap or flashy. No more so than Victory Red or Millennium Yellow or Jetstream Blue, or ...

Yes, I like it.

My response is like jerfis. I love it and I get lots of compliments on it. When I went to buy a Vette I thought I was going to buy LMB or Silver, but I saw AO on the showroom floor and fell in love. I have an 07 and it makes me smile every day. I don't think we should ever expect agreement on colors; that is why there are choices.

DSOM is much better than AO but either would be my last choice as a color.

At first I liked the DSOM better than the AO. But now I think AO kicks butt on all the other colors. DSOM looks like yesterdays news. I get compliments on my AO everytime I have it out.

I think AO and DSOM are both beautiful colors and I wouldn't turn my nose up at either one. I very much like DSOM or AO convertibles with tan tops Would I buy either of those colors....probably. The only color I wouldn't buy is black & only because black cars are so hard to keep clean.
