I just read that you still have to pay a $850 destination charge on top
of the NCM delivery fee. Do you pay that to the musuem at delivery, or
is it in the final price from the car dealer?

Museum Delivery
Both the destination charge and the Museum Delivery (R8C) charge is paid to the dealership and included in the total cost of the Vette's order. Then somehow or another, the funds for the delivery are forwarded to the museum behind the scenes.
No car sold to the general public escapes the destination charge including NCM delivery. It is included in whatever final price you negotiate with the dealer.
We had the NCM delivery last month and I asked why do you get charged both fees when you are at the factory picking up your car. The museum fee is obvious, to cover their costs to deliver the car, the guide, handling the logistics of the delivery and your membership. Our guide said the museum really doesn't make much money from the delivery option they make most of their money from the gift shop and items for sale to delivery participants only. I don't know how true all that is though. The factory delivery fee is charged regardless because that is a negotiated fee between GM and the carrier for EVERY Corvette coming off the line no matter where it goes. They must get a better price that way.
My wife and I had a great time picking up our car!!! It's something we will always remember and it was worth the money. Enjoy your delivery!
My guide during the NCM delivery was a retired GM plant worker in Bowling Green. He said in 1996 he bought a new vette and took delivery as it rolled off the line. Never went to a dealer OR the Museum across the street and he still had to pay the delivery fee.
The dealer makes some money off the R8C option. There was a posting early in the 2008 MY that showed list and invoice prices, and as I recall around $80 to $100 of the R8C cost goes to the dealer.

The delivery Fee is on EVERY 'Vette. Same price regardless of distance, think of it as the buyers close to Bowling Green subsidizing the buyers at longer distance.
I think the Teamsters Union cut a good (for the Teamsters) deal with GM.
