Water Pump Shot
At 20K miles, the water pump on my '05 is leaking water. WTF GM??? I'm out of warranty.
Any of the vendors here selling C6 water pumps yet, or do I need to go to my dealer?

Are you sure the leak is the WP?
The WP looks like a PITA to replace, maybe just lay on the dealership and pay the $.

It actually doesn't look that bad to replace. Pulled the air filter/bridge off, pulled the serpentine belt off, and there it is...

A water pump from NAPA (Rayloc) will probably last longer than a new one from the dealer. Fairly standard Chevy small block water pump install.
I'm not finding one though...maybe I'm overestimating NAPA. Gene would have one at a good price though if you can install it yourself.

When mine went on a Camero after 42,000 miles I got the dealership to give me half price. Cost $150.00 rather than $300.00.

My 05 water pump went at 25,000 miles. Fortunately I had the extended warranty so I got it replaced free. The dealer said thid wasn't a common problem.

Got the dealer to agree to fix it and split the cost with me as a goodwill measure. I'm out only $250. Gets fixed on Thursday.

Sorry to hear that. My water pump on my C5 had to be replaced with about 40,000 miles.

would an item like this be covered with the 07+ 5yr/100,000 powertrain warranty?

At 20, 000 miles, ask the dealer for a "goodwill" repair. IF the dealer agrees, GM pays for the repair, so the dealers gets a smile from you and it cost the dealer nothing. Won't hurt to ask.

Lost mine at 17000 miles just after the warrenty ran out. Did have GMPP and it was taken care of. I thought I was the only one that had this happen.

That's what I'm wondering too. Is this not considered powertrain?
Woops, I see you have a 2005 out of warranty. GM does include this under their powertrain warranty for the 2007+ folks.

Yes, it is a powertrain repair, but 2005's and 2006's didn't have 5/100 powertrain - they only had 3/36.
Gee, I guess this means that the $2k someone spent on GMPP was worth it to cover a $500 repair, huh?

Or you could look at it as a 2005 owner who is just out of 3/36 warranty has already had a $500 repair paid for and several more years of coverage on their policy. You seem to have a lot of confidence in GM's reliability which is great, but I think others are not as confident as you are.

Congrats, probably the best place to do it, even though it appears to be an easy change. Never hurts to negotiate.
