It is not that hard at all. I think the 6 speed has a hex bolt you need to remove under the boot.

The boot is also easy to replace.

It has a plastic ring around the inside of the boot that clips into the underside of the console.
You just squeeze inward on the boot with one hand, while releasing the plastic clips with the other.

Just take your time & you won't have any problems.

I used painters tape to protect the console while I switched out the boot.

Thanks for the tips! Thinking about replacing the one in my '06 as I have the cashmere interior with the gray boot and surrounding area. Wonder what GM was thinking with that color combo!

If you're going to change it, I would consider ds vettes. I have some stuff from them and it is great.

When replacing the shift boot, do you need to remove the center console? or can you remove the boot with the console in place?

You do not need to remove the center console. Like stated above it's very easy.

Bought my 2tone from MAM (Mid America Motorworks). Very inexpensive and it's leather not crap like the stock peice.
