Default Minor Body Flaws

I have a minor flaw in my hatch to my C6. It came from the factory with a little dimple, and I am wondering peoples thoughts on factory paint, and if its even worth having them fix it. I know I am usually pretty picky about the stuff, so I don't want to open up the door for a whole bunch more problems.

Anyone have any thoughts on what to do? Leave it, and call it a personal touch, or get it fixed, on warranty I believe.

If its a little dimple (sink) than I would leave it alone. Repaints can have even more dimples and the paint is softer and probably won't be as good as factory paint in terms of longevity. If it sticks out then it can be wet sanded level and polished.

Do not get the car repainted, the risk is to great for much worse problems.

There is certainly a point where repainting causes more problems than the original problem...

I have the CRM also and it too came with a minor flaw in the deck lid. Our body shop said with this paint it could be more trouble than it's worth trying to repaint and match things up than just leaving the flaw there. You can only see mine when in certain light and just the right angle, but it's there. The GM reps said we might could get it done under warranty, but even if we could get them to agree to repaint it or possibly an entirely new deck lid painted at the factory, there's still a good chance that the paint won't match up well with the rest of the car. I'm leaving mine alone.

Resale value is bad enough without explaining why it was repainted.

I noticed two tiny "stains" on the roof panel of my AO coupe which arrived last Friday. I am hoping they will diminish after some Zaino treatment, but I too was bummed to find them.

We might be in the same boat. My 05 came from the factory with a tiny little hair on the driver door under the clear coat you cant feel it but its visible. And its been there since April 05.

So much for the factory's Decon process in their paint area

...little dimple ~ I'd probably just live with it ~ as others have stated, sometimes your just better off leaving well enough alone.

I used to be an insurance adjuster and have a very pickey eye... if you start looking very closely at your Corvette you'll notice they all have a good bit of orange peel in certain places, in parts the clear can be thin, and the SMC body panels are wavey by their very nature.

They're all this way... if you say yours isn't then you don't know how to look at it and keep it that way!

I just got back from Carlisle and was being uber-pickey about my recent repaint etc. Going to Carlisle and looking at all the stock Corvettes was great therapy to see how average the oem finish is and how awesome my car truly turned out.

Quite simply it's just how they are.

I just finished my 4th coat of Zaino on my 09.
Trying NOT to look at the orange peel, spots, dimples and other paint irregularities.
Shame on GM....my Ford truck has better clearcoat.
Good thing this car is so much fun to DRIVE!

I've a '07 LMB C6 with the same issue, rt hand side near the glass window trim area, just behind the passenger door. I just call it a beauty mark. Not worth the risk of repair or repaint. I'm the only one that knows its there.....

My '09 has three dimples on the rear fascia, and the orange peel in the rear license plate area is the worst I have ever seen. Overall this car has to be the worst example of factory paint I've ever seen. A buddy of mine just bought a Cobalt and his paint looks better. What the %%%%? Mine has numerous flaws on every panel, including some random small brass colored specks under the clear. Did I mention all the "rail" dust also? This will be my 16th GM car and 5th black car. I've never had the issues I've had with this car. No doubt about the fact that black will show all of the flaws but this is crazy. I went back to the dealer lot and checked out numerous other cars, and they too had the same issues. Have since gone to two other dealers and checked the paint for dimples and "dust". All the cars are showing the same stuff. Obviously this "junk" on and under the paint is coming from Bowling Green and/or the carriers. My advice is to not look too close because the closer you look the more you find. IMO a good hand done paint job will put to shame the factory paint.

Some of the examples I have seen of non-factory painted C-6's are night and day better than the factory painted cars.

Thanks everyone for all the opinions. It's good to know that leaving it is probably the best, and now I can start getting over it. I guess I better go out and wash and wax the beast now.

My Scion tC's paint came perfect. Never found a defect on it. That's a $16.5K car. I find it odd that GM can't produce a clean paint job at $45K+. The Scion's paint is very easy to chip however so I got a clear bra for it.
