Default Fob vs key

I have an 08 VERT and I'll have to say I'm not real crazy about the NEW FOB I'd much rather have the old KEY in ignition system like the old C5's. Whats everyone else think ??

I think it's way cooler and more up-to-date to push a button to start the car. Not many cars I've been in have it so it also adds some exclusivity. But, to each his own.

I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I agree. If the current system worked properly it wouldn't be such a problem. I'm on my 3rd C6 and none of them has yet to correctly figure out if the fob is in the car or not. I'm also allowed me to open the door when the fob is nowwhere near the car.

Having the key inside the fob makes no sense at all. If I were to lock the fob in the car, as many others have done, the key is also locked in the car, preventing me from getting in through the hatch unless I have the other fob.

As I've said many times, the keyless entry system was a solution to a problem that didn't exist. It's over-engineered and has at least 3 backup systems in case of failure.

I like the different options you can have with the FOB and definitely love pushing that button and hearing the engine come to life.

enjoy it while it lasts -- everyone is starting to come out with push button starts, just trickle down technology.

Remember when the only ones who has push button starts were race cars and ferrari's?

My FOB stays in my pocket whenever I'm up. I walk up to the car and it opens. I push the button and it starts. I get out and it automatically locks. The car knows me and no one else just the same as if it recognized my DNA. Why in the world would I want to fumble with pushing buttons and inserting keys just to get the car to do what I want it to do?

I really like that both my daily driver and Vette don't require a key. I can walk up to either car, open it and drive away without having to fish the right key out of my pocket. I find that really convenient. Since the fobs never leave my pocket, I'm not worried about leaving them in the car. You should make sure you have the autolocking stuff setup in your DIC if you can open your car without the fob.

I was skeptical.

Then I programmed the entry and exit. Now I walk up the car, open the door and push the button. When I get where I'm going I push the button get out and walk away. At 10 meters the car honks to let me know it's locked and armed.

What about that would be better or easier with a set of keys? Even a wireless remote where you have to fish them out and punch the right button?

It's a brainless step up.

My thoughts exactly. My FOB has never failed and always works perfectly. I've heard issues of people with FOBs in the same pocket as their iPhones messing things up.

Yep. I really like it so far, 98 miles into my '09 Vette.

I love it when people tell me what I should do. The fact is, the system is programmed properly. The system just doesn't always work as it's supposed to. Examples:

1. Sometimes it locks, sometimes it doesn't. No rhyme or reason as to when it will work.
2. Many times I turn the car off and it honks at me three times thinking I left the fob in the car. I'm guessing that this is what it thinks as I get no message on the DIC, just three honks.
3. Many times it wants to verify that I want to turn the car off when it doesn't detect the fob that is in my pocket. I don't carry a cell phone in my pocket so that is never a problem.
4. Many times the car won't start as it doesn't detect the fob in my pocket. It will detect it to let me in though.

These same things happened with my 07 coupe and my new 08 coupe.

Those of you who have no problems with this are lucky. There are many of us that do have problems with the system.

I prefer the key. I see zero advantage to the FOB, plus the FOB is just something else that can go wrong.

Do you have the computer set to lock the doors automatically? The key is for dead batteries. The door still opens if the fob is inside.

Funny thing is that I let a valet move my car while I was watching while staying at a hotel in RI. He did just fine but when I went up to my room to take a shower, I realized I had the Fob in my pocket. It was strange knowing the car was running even though I had the "key" in my pants.

There is a Chevrolet bulletin to fix that problem with the "No Fob Detected" message.

I've had 3 C6s and I'm crazy about the fob. When approaching or departing the car with my hands full, I don't have to try to find a key. The fob stays in my pocket at all times that I'm near the car.

Mine's programmed to lock the car when I exit and flash the lights. Never fails.

I also like having the seat move into driving position as soon as I start the car. Then, when I'm through driving and get read to exit, it moves the seat back for me. It's great.

I've never been a fan of the fob. I would prefer just a regular key. The simpler the better.

Don't think it would have re-started tho.
