once and for all, ford never built, and still doesn't, the mustang to compete with the corvette. that includes the shelby GT 500 and all other specialty mustangs. it has been this way for 45 years and will not change. please keep in mind when posting slams against mustangs. the two are not comparable, nor meant to be. just my 2 cents

It's no wonder so many people think Corvette owners are arrogant. By the way, I own a 2007 GT and I love it.
i've had 8-10 over the last 20 years including two cobras. loved them all. i used to think i would never drive GM, but I had to have a corvette and am now open minded to all american cars. if it's USA, don't slam. ricers sux. anybody remember pearl harbor day, iwo jima, bataan death march, etc. USA okay. don't slam

Attitude gives Vette owners a bad name. I enjoyed my Mustangs (5 total) very much. Now enjoying the Vette.
Old Mustangs are cool, new ones are a bit of a joke. How many (a million)different models/variations/tuner cars are there????? Doesn't matter what they do to them, they still will always overweight and crude and 90% will be driven by a snot nosed young kid or a women. Not being disrespectful, just being honest, that is Fords target market with these cars.

I agree the car has become something that I no longer really support because I never bought one past the 03 Cobra. (Hence the Vette)
You paint with a broad brush regarding the bulk of the Mustang owners, if it wasnt for the younger interest or the base model 6 banger the higher end cars would have never been built hence my next point. Not all can afford a Vette, It took me until the age of 36 to buy a 'new' one while I could have bought just about any C5 used.
Regardless of the demographics without the Mustang you would not see the rebirth of the Challenger, Charger or the Camero.
So in my opinion without the Mustang for all of the recent 'lean' years of competition you would not have the horsepower wars or the resurgence of American Muscle for mid sized cars.
One has to respect the past before you can appreciate the future.

A bit of an intemperate view regarding something different from personal tastes?
Doubt that Ford's target group demographics align with yours.

Um, not my opinion, that IS Fords target market, sorry to break the news to you. I don't think it is a secret. If you don't want to do some DD on the net. (it is has been clearly stated by Ford officials) take a drive around a busy part of your city and keep track of all the Mustangs you see. After two hours see how many of the two hundred Mustangs you saw were driven by women, snot nosed kids or old men wearing baseball caps and you will see the answer that backs up who Fords target market for this car is.
So....what's the point?? There are Mustang people and there are Corvette people. There are even Mustang and Corvette people in ONE person. (most of them live in in CA) Apples and oranges'
I agree with the original poster. As a former 2-time Porsche owner seriously considering a Corvette for the first time, I'm uncomfortable with Mustang bashing. I never thought the Mustang was meant to be a Corvette competitor. Sure, there are some "specialty" Mustangs out there but a standard Mustang could never be seriously considered a threat to a standard Corvette.
As C6 owners you should realize that this car is the first time GM has built a car that is anywhere near the quality of some of the imports (IMHO). You should be comparing yourself to higher quality competition.
Putting down Mustangs to me is like an NSX owner putting down a WRX or EVO owner. Sure the WRX or EVO has a lot of horspower but they are not in the same league. The same holds true for the Corvette and Mustang. They can put 500 hp in a Mustang but who really cares?
Fords original answer to the Corvette was the T-Bird which was produced in 1954. The Mustangs were made to compete with the Camaro and Firebird. They are two different beasts.
BTW.. I don't see many T-Birds on the road anymore. I guess Chevy won that battle.
I still like Mustangs a lot; I will never forget the first time I drove one. I can only hope that now owning a C6 will not turn me into an arrogant a$$, like it seems to have done to a lot of people. You are not defined by what you drive. Corvettes are affordable to so many people now that it should not be the end-all status symbol that so many seem to think it is. It is a nice car, I love it, but it does not make my head swell and make me better than a Mustang owner or less a person than a Ferrari owner. Geez-us.
The Mustang is a pony car(ie. camaro, firebird, challenger, ect), the Vette is a sports car with alot of power. Totally different cars targeted at totally different groups.IMO.
