A couple days ago, I went to admire the new C6's...very nice cars. I'm thinking or upgrading from my C5 or just adding another vette to the collection. I noticed something weird that the salesman was not able to explain. I noticed that on a '08 LS3 the car listed 436hp, however, on the '09 LS3 it listed 430hp. Why is that?
Lower HP version has standard exhaust and the higher HP version has the NPP exhaust which is a bi modal exhaust system that it has two passages, or modes, that the exhaust can travel through the muffler. Each of the mufflers has two outlets, with one side having a butterfly type valve which allows the exhaust flow to be shut off, regulating which side of the muffler the flows exhaust. Besides sound level control increases HP a bit too.

Beware of these lame salesmen who expect you to spend big money, but can't explain the basic options.
If you spend an afternoon doing some research on this forum, you'll know more about the vette than most of the sales bozos!
Check out the forum dealers listed here. Your likely going to get a better deal from them anyway.
You really don't have to spend a whole afternoon on this forum to know more then most salemen. Once you've read the first response to your post your there.
I may be nuts but I drove an LS3 and I could not notice a difference from the LS2!
What you feel would also be influenced by the the transmission gearing. If either cars has the Z51 option, the first 3 gears have a much closer gear ratio than the standard gearing.
You're not insane - it only amounts to about an 8% horsepower increase. You'd have to be VERY astute to really notice any difference.
The only thing I really noticed between my '07 Convertible and an '09 I took out for a spin was the steering. BIG difference there, but the ol' "Butt Dyno" isn't usually the greatest measure for horsepower numbers!

If your salesman couldn't explain the difference in HP then obviously they don't sell many Corvettes. If they don't sell many Corvettes then they have to get top dollar for the ones they do sell. Contact the forum dealers to get a far better price and to be able to talk to someone who also knows something about the car they are selling.

When going to trade my C5, the salesman asked me if it was a "V6" or V8 ...
I said "WTF", you'd better get me a real salesman or I'm outta-here!!!
Actually if you look up the window sticker on the 09 on the GM locator even those cars with the NPP are listed at 430, unlike the 08's which were listed at 436.

Say, I know you got a LS2 and LS3, right? I got a '07 LS2 A6 and even
with CAI and Headers with All Season tires I can stomp it WOT from a dead stop and not loose any traction or spinning except a chirp from 2cd to 3rd gear. I recall you saying that isnt the case with the stock LS3 and its spin city from a standstill?
While the LS3 may not seem faster than the LS2, you are going faster cuz on the drag strip you about .3 faster with the LS3 over the LS2.
I was thinking of moving up to LS3 but not sure about less tractibility.
