This in not a job for the faint of heart. The Lear system that GM is using can be a real killer if you have older dip switch openers. I wonder why they do not use a simple signel memory system like most of the other manufacturers? Any one else have a comment about this?

I have had my 2008 vert since December 07 and still cannot get the opener in the vette to function. I have been using my old garage door opener and have to keep it in the console. Any suggestions?
Finally got mine on the 4th attempt (w/ Lear Hotline assistance). I had to program mine to the 2nd button on the visor....never could get it to work w/ the first. Car: New '08 Opener: New Genie (screw drive).
Never had a problem before w/ any of the other cars (or previous vettes) w/ the Homelink system.
I moved into my new house in Feb. of this year. It's got a 4 car garage with top of the line Linear brand openers. After finally calling Lear on the 800 number in the manual of my '08 C6, I was told that some openers won't work with their system. They sell a module that can be installed by the openers to make it work.
In short, I've got a '07 Cadillac, an '08 C6, 4 very expensive Linear door openers & still had to purchase their modules to get in the house.

I see your point if you have the older style openers but if you have openers of recent vintage the new system is infinitely better.
Was reading the manual to set mine and thought a page was missing. Nope, it's that easy...just hit the learn button and the in-car buttoms. No into/out of the car, back up the ladder, etc.

ditto... What is the Lear number to call for help?
My 10 year old opener works but my 2 three year old openers do not.
I've got newer Raynor Aviator garage door openers. The security feature is extremely robust as after each use it rolls over to a new code out of a possible 1 billion different possibilities. Obviously, there is some proprietary technology going on in this case so it's likely to not be part of the basic "home link" systems in a lot of cars. I don't have the feature in my Corvette, but do in the Charger and Explorer we have... They used to work great until we got the new garage doors.
When I finally got the Vette to work (middle button only), the procedure had scrambled the other cars Home link, the motorcycle remote, and the outside the garage keypad. When I got those to work again, the Vette didn't work. I even wrapped the Vette visor in aluminum foil so it would not get scrambled; didn't work. Anyway, somehow, two hours later, with my Wife standing on the ladder, pushing the "smart" button on the opener, while I ran around pushing various buttons on various vehicles they all work. But the Vette will still only work on the middle button. What a great way to spend a hot, humid NC afternoon.
When I started programming the garage door opener I was surprised it didn't simply clone the codes from the door's remote controller.
In any case, I followed the instructions for my fixed code garage door opener. All I had to do was open the case and jot down the switch positions. After entering this into the car, the door opener worked on the first try.
It really wasn't a big deal. I haven't tried it with a rolling code opener or any other devices, but fixed code device was very simple to program.
My ~2000 model Liftmaster garage door opener works AOK with Lear, but my community gate, no way. Both work flawlessly with my wife's Homelink. I need to call Lear sometime.

Just call me lucky. Programed my 08 with no problems. Just followed the directions. I have a old opener 15 years old.
hey lucky I must be your brother as I too had no problems programing 3 different doors to the three buttons. all my openers are less then 6 years old so that certainly helps!
