Who here has had an HUD Onstar windshield replaced? Any problems? Any advice? Insurance is paying, so price is not an issue. A flawless job with no cosmetic or function problems are my only concerns.
Not to worry. We have had three windshields replaced in our 07 Vert, nicknamed The Rock Magnet. We do have the HUD. Each time we take the car to the selling dealer for the replacement just to ensure all would be correct before it was returned to us. Each time a terrific job, no problems with the HUD and on each event we are treated to a loaner for the day while the work was being done. You've got to love these smaller town Chevy Dealers.
I had a windshield replaced in my '07 coupe summer of 2007. It cracked from the driver's side with no rock or anything else hitting it. It had to be installed incorrectly. This replacement was done under warranty.
In August of 2008, I had to have the windshield replaced in my 2006 convertible due to a rock causing 2 half circle cracks in the driver's line of vision. This was filed on insurance ($500 deductible).
Both cars have HUD & XM, so I too was worried about the replacements. The same auto glass company did them both for the dealer and me and they turned out great. The only problem was the bracket that holds the rearview mirror on the replacement windshield of the 'vert had to be adjusted (epoxied) to hold the mirror tight. Be sure and check to see that the mirror is not wobbling when you pick up the car after the repair.
New windshields without rock dings & stars are really pretty.
I called my insurance carrier, State Farm, they suggested a local company. I had them do it at the house as the longer the car sits without being moved the better. This was in July. So far no problems. It all depends on the experience of those doing the work, which is why I relied on the advice of the insurance agent. Also, let it sit. Do not drive it until the glue has cured.
