Default BDS Solved

After the usual battery problems many of us had after initial purchase, my dealer replaced the origional battery after a tow in on GM, and my refusal to accept the vehicle with the battery that came with it.

I had already recharged it several times in my garage before the tow in, and I got stranded on a parking lot and it wouldn't jump start. Not happy but stuff happens.

I also took the forum members advice and purchased a tender, but frankly the new battery solved the problem. I never use the tender.

But I have had 2 dead battery conditions that I solved quite easily after unlocking the car through the trunk. These solutions might be helpful to other members, and I suspect may be one of the main BDS causes. They are so simple you wouldn't believe a super car like the Vette would be affected.

1. Cause: Gear shift in Park, but not fully seated allowing electronics to remain on.
Fix: Double check gear selector is in "park". I usually give mine a second shove to be sure.

2. Cause: Wife got distracted by grandkid handing her the FOB and shut down car in garage without shifting to "park".
Fix: Double check gear selector is in "park" before exiting.

I suspect either of these occurences results in a significant amount of unexplained DBS problems, with not being fully in "park" likely the major cause of DBS. It is especially hard to detect as the first thing you do once you get in the car after unlocking through the trunk is to touch the gear shift, which locks it in and the problem goes away, with no apparent cause. We all blame the complicated electronics (computer)when it may just be a little micro switch in the shift linkage.

very interesting little fact, thanks. but I'd say if you're going to leave your car unused for awhile, it really can't hurt to plug it into the battery maintainer. then again, in your part of the country, you probably don't have a lot of weather that forces you to leave it sitting for very long!

Sorry, but I dont believe thats necessarily the case. It may account for some instances, but not the majority.

My car is a manual, and I suffer from the same condition. And I make absolutely certain the shifter is in reverse every time I exit the car. But, it persists on an off and on basis. There are no Chevrolet dealerships with knowledge of Corvettes in my area either, unfortunately.

DBS is a battery drain caused by problems with the programming in the BCM of 2005 manual transmission cars that have been shut down properly in reverse. This situation, and others that affected 2005 and 2006 cars, were resolved through a TSB which called for a BCM reflash.

While the condition you describe may cause a battery drain, it is basically user error and not what has been described as DBS here. It is also not related to the TSB that dealt with the DBS issue.
