Default save yourself a headache

In the past month, two of my C6 friends have locked their FOB's in their cars. I decided to save myself the headache by getting a key that I could carry in my wallet. I found a Saturn key at my nearby locksmith that will work. It is B106 blank and does not have the thick plastic handle. I found my Chevy local dealer has a ilco B106-P blank but it has the thick plastic handle that is too thick for my wallet.

I know, I know, call Onstar etc. Having a key in my wallet, that takes 15 seconds to retrieve and use, works for me

Or, set the DIC to open your car when you get close to it and lock it when you walk away. I take my key out of my pocket once a day, at night when I take my pants off. I never leave it behind that way.

Great idea. I think I will do that too for extra protection.

^^^--that's what i do too. another benefit to doing it this way is that even if you forget the fob in the car, the car will honk 3 times to let you know that you forgot it, and it won't lock. saves me a headache because sometimes i forget that i even have it with me.

The B-106 is the flat key and the B-106 P has the plastic head (which is easily removed).

I often (purposely) lock my wallet in the car - but never take the fob out of my pocket except to put it on the key shelf at home.

Oh yea, the B106 key, cut, cost me $3.05 including tax. Cheap insurance.

I think I would rather tape/hide the key under the car somewhere instead of keeping it in my wallet. If wallet is lost or stolen, they have your address and your car entry key. Just something to think about.

True, they can get into the car, but they can't start it without the FOB. But, how is the person that has your wallet going to know what the key is for? I think that most people see a car they want to steal, they look for ways to steal it, such as a hidden key. If they spot something in your car they want, smash and grab is the way they get it. If they have my wallet, and my home address, there is a lot of stuff they would rather steal from my home.

The DIC cannot be programmed to open your car when you get close to it. If you're close enough to the door with the fob, putting your hand inside the handle and pressing on the membrane will open the car door.

However, you're right about the second part. Why take the fob out of your pocket? The fobs to my 06 C6 are either in my house or one's in my pocket. If I'm driving the C6, the fob stays in my pocket until I get home with it.

I have a key hidden under the C6 and a spare fob hidden in the car (batteries removed). In addition I have a key in my wallet. I've had the C6 3 1/2 years and haven't needed any of them. Maybe someday.

You are lucky.. when I walk away, my vette gets locked 60% of the time. I still have to click it to make sure it locks...

I was wondering where would be a good place to hide the key on the car. No need to carry it, as it is only needed if the battery dies.

It works, but I (meaning wife) have almost washed it once or twice...
