There are a lot of threads on the subject of the front air dam scraping driveways, speedbumps, etc., and the relatively low cost of replacement. But I've never seen a post of someone actually replacing the front air dam.
Just curious of how many folks have replaced theirs for one reason or another.
I'll start. My left side section is damaged, but I haven't replaced it yet.
When I purchased my car used about 1 year ago the left side section was a bit askew. I was able to unbolt that section, straighten a mounting bracket, and reassemble with new plastic hardware and it's been fine since. Normal day to day "rubbing" over driveway entrances, etc. will scrape the bottom edge but not cause significant damage. I think it takes a pretty good hit (which is easy enough since the air dam rides so low) to actually cause real damage. Often that can be repaired easily, however.
You really should have put a more meaningful title on this post. "Poll" doesn't really tell the readers anything.
Thanks, Stan. I thought about that, but if you roll your cursor over the title, you will see the first sentence of the thread and have an ideal of what the poll is for....
Replaced the right front when I inadvertently ran up on a high parking bumper (diagonal parking spot). It didn't feel that bad, but it pushed the air dam and lower extension piece back into the wheel well liner cracking the liner in three places. The air dam piece was pretty beat up and somewhat twisted at that point, so I replaced it along with the other pieces. I think it was $14 and change.
Mine scraped on the driverway the first few times after I bought the car but quickly learned to pull out at an extreme angle with no problems, have not had any scrape type issues since, so no damage no need to replace.
When new mine scraped badly everytime I left my driveway. Now after 3 years it doesn't scrape nearly as much. Probably because it is worn down where it used to scrape. I don't notice that it looks bad and I'm sure if I don't notice no one else will either...
If it get so short it starts to affect cooling, assuming it is like the C5's dams that are actually a part of the cooling system, I'll break down and replace it. Until then, meh...
Mine scrapes every time I drive in and out of my driveway. It's been over three years and it doesn't need to be replaced yet. It's doing it's job by swinging back and forth when it scrapes.
