You will enjoy the C6 as a daily driver. Many people don't like the seats very much. They think they can be better.

you'll enjoy a lot more of our opinions if you give us an idea of where you live. daily driver is fine, as long as it isn't Minnesota. no offense to my Minn. brethren.

Glad to hear you'll be joining the Corvette family soon! The C6 is a fine daily driver, mine was a DD for a while. Like danl72 said above, some complain of the seats, but it really boils down to personal preference. I for one find them rather comfortable. One thing to be careful of however, is depending on where you live these C6's tend to get scraped quite a bit being as low as they are. But as long as you're careful and watch where youre going, you shouldn't have too much of a problem.

The C6 is an amazing automobile, and you'll find new little things to fall in love with all over again every day you own the car! The ups are too many too count. Drive one and you'll find many pros to the C6; own one and you'll find many more!

Best of luck in your search for a 'Vette

ya, i hear this. i went from driving trucks to driving my srt8...i know its not as low as the vette, but i am very aware the height issue. also, the srt has 20 inch rims, aviod potholes, curbs and the like. i think im used to it by now. the srt was my practice fast car. lol

another big question mark i have is the road tripping ability of the vette. any of you guys take long trips? i.e. hundereds or even a thousand or so miles. how does that go?

i hope you're successful in your conversion, but your probably going to take a bath on the dodge.

last weekend we went from D/FW area and back with lots of spirited driving at the event, some at high speed thru the twisties. i averaged 23.6 mpg for a 980 mile trip.

the car drives like a dream on any roads, especialy interstates. w/ cruise you could very easily get 28 mpg on the hwy.

thats pretty good mileage, i get about 22 on the highway with my srt8. how long do you drive at a pop, before having to take a break??

I've driven my 6-speed Vette everyday for roughly 53,000 miles in 18 months or so. Needless to say, I love it It's a fantastic road-trip car as well - TONS of storage space.

I will say, though, that my enjoyment of the car depends a lot on the quality of the road surface (I've got the more stiffly-sprung Z51 "sport" handling suspension).

That being said, before you buy, you'll want to seriously consider the three suspension options offered on a C6 Vette:

Base - very good all around use

F55 (driver selectable suspension control - a system that I believe GM sold to Ferrari for use in their road cars; I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on this )

Z51 - more road course, track day oriented (also has different transmission gearing).

The only other potential "negatives" are expensive tires (about 2 grand per set if you chose to replace the factory Run-Flats; probably not that different than your SRT8), and, always making sure the car has the proper alignment settings. Even a brand new Vette straight from the factory may not have the front wheels aligned correctly.

Good luck with your Vette search; take your time and enjoy this forum - tons of first-hand experience here.

It's great, at least in a coupe because then there's a lot of luggage room. We did a 6,000-mile trip home in 3 weeks after taking Museum Delivery in our new one, and we did a 10,000-mile trip in our C5 in 4 weeks. And we're in our 50s. Great road cars.

Only real downside is dealing with tires. They are expensive and, since they are such large sizes, the particular size needed often goes out of stock. Do not wait until the last minute when the tires are getting bad or you may end up buying whatever is available, instead of what you want.

Good luck selling the SRT-8 (cool car!) and good luck getting a Vette.

Default F55 - Best of Both Worlds

Probably the last nice Sunny and 80F weekend here in Chicago for a while.

Wife and I took our '09 Cyber Gray F55 Convertible out for a 4 1/2 hour, 250 mile drive. Stopped only once to throw out our drinks and go to the washroom (out of the car 5 minutes tops).

Out of all the Corvettes I've owned, this one with the F55 suspension is the best!

What else ya gonna get that has 430HP, paddle shifters, comfortable leather seats and rides like a Lexus.

depends on your climate. I don't mind rock chips or grime on my 05 coupe but my Jeep Grand Cherokee hemi is saweeeeeeeeet on days of snow, ice, cold etc. Rear wheel drive is rear wheel drive and the more the hp the worse it can be. Plus, can you imagine a C6s wheel wells clogged with snow and road gravel? Man.

well, by your accounts here it seems a long trip will not be hard on the body. that is one thing i love about my srt8, it is very comfortable. i drive quite a bit and quite often good distances.

HOWEVER the real reason i want the vette is speed!, the quickest time ive had my charger down the quarter mile is 13.02 @108. and it will top out around 173ish....(not that ive ever done that) i thought it would be good to have the 2 extra doors, just in case, but i have only had 1 person in the back seat since january....hmm....

I've had my 2005 coupe (my first and only Corvette) for over 3 years and I love it. it's loaded with every available 2005 option except the transparent top and OnStar. I opted for the Z51 suspension package and the 6-speed manual transmission. It's truly a great car that makes me smile every time I drive it. Having said that, I highly doubt that I'd ever want one of these things for a daily driver. True, storage and cargo space is very decent for a sports car and the car is surprisingly comfortable. (My longest drive was a 700 mile one earlier this year and it was great.) Still, there are plenty of times when I just prefer driving my SUV. It may sound crazy, but it's true. If I was going to have just one vehicle, I'd probably take the SRT8 over a Corvette. Flame suit is on.

BTW, in 2008 (and 2009) drilled rotors come with Z51 Performance Handling Package and F55 Magnetic Ride Suspension.

The Z51 option package comes with drilled rotors, front and rear. The rotors are also slightly bigger than stock in the front. Additionally, Z51 cars will have a transmission cooler, oil cooler, stiffer shocks, thicker sway bars, and stickier Goodyear Run-Flats (Goodyear "Supercar" vs Goodyear GS-2) and the different gearing as mentioned earlier. The Z51's have a pretty short first gear for around town use but it's no biggie. I'm not a drag racer so I don't know if that helps or hurts a good launch.

The trade-off for most of the goodies in a Z51-equipped car is a net effect of a slightly harsher ride. It doesn't bother me because I prefer the handling edge the whole package provides, AND, the roads I drive on are generally smooth so harshness is a non-issue.

Hope this helps. Now go out and get that C6!
