C6 vs BMW 135i
Hi guys, please read this whole post before commenting...
1. GMS pricing and below brings the C6 within my financial grasp. Im looking at a 1LT Z51 or a 2LT at $42k + TTL. The 135i will cost roughly $42k + TTL the way i like it. I can afford either of these.
2. Im single and 22yo so i don't need back seats. I do want cargo room and both offer plenty. Practicality is not an issue.
3. I am concerned about build quality and dealership service departments over the next 6-10 years. I have found the following shop that claims to be a founding member of the Vette Museum. Anyone heard of it?
http://www.huntandknight.com/services.html
Im weary of incompetent or inexperienced technicians working on my C6.
4. The 135i has some very nice features, swivel HIDs, no rollback on the hills, good quality leather in nice colors, twin turbos! Its a premium, compact coupe that does everything well, a jack of all trades.
5. The vette has style that the 135i can not touch. I love low slung powerful cars. 400+ hp is more than i could ever want. I also love the removeable top on the vette, way better than a moonroof.
Im stuck. I like both cars but i think the deciding factor will be maintenance and service department quality. How much does it cost to maintain a C6?
I know this is a vette forum, been here long enough to figure that out. I want to hear your opinions, biased as they may be.
Thanks guys.

Keep in mind, Bimmers are very nice cars,BUT, they'll never get the gas mileage and overall performance...dollar per dollar that a Corvette does. The other main issue is "maintainnance". BMW gives you a coupleof years free. Do you wonder why? Becaause they suck and you can get your Vette serviced all over the USA. Now,if you live in Germany, get the bimmer.

Totally apples to oranges on the cars, but you did ask specifically about service, so:
Chevrolet service department quality will vary greatly, though I'm sure the same could be said for many car brands. Try asking around to see if anyone you know has experience dealing with the local Chevy dealer.
If maintenance costs are a big factor for you, then you should choose the Corvette. BMW will likely be much more expensive to repair and maintain.

I owned an M5 and it spent a lot of time in the shop. I think that overall, the BMW brand has slipped. JD Power would also back my statement up. I would do the Vette.

In the corvette, you change the oil and air filter. That is all. No comparison between the two cars. The BMW will cost you an arm and a leg when the free maintenance is over.

You can't compare a 135 to a vette, not even close, but I guess with a name like Importluva you should get the 135.
The only maintenance I had done on my '08 for the 1st year was an oil change @ $69.

They are both very fine cars. I wouldn't make "my" decision based on maintenance and or service quality. Different dealers, whether they be BMW or GM will have different levels of service. I would make "my" decision based on which car I would enjoy more. For me there would be no big choice. I have had four Corvettes. 93 Coupe, 01 Convertible, 04 Convertible and now an 08 Convertible. The 08 is an incredible car and its performance is breath taking.
Good luck on your decision.

Both vehicles are similar in that they are complex and may have some issues. BMW's spend about the same time in the shop as Corvettes, I'd guess.
I make these same choices...
Do you want face melting TORQUE that causes uncontrollable laughter? Get the Corvette.
Want a more subtle, perhaps more polished ride? Get the BMW.
But with me, the BMW would sit unattended, while my Vette gets obsessive, enthusiastic attention.

This issue is not about apples and oranges, service quality or cost of ownership. This issue is about owning one of the best sports cars in the world vs. a bottom of the line german coupe. Everyone here can give you their opinions but there is only one way for you to make a smart decision - DRIVE THEM!!!!
And by the way, if you do drive them both we will look forward to seeing pics of your new VETTE!!!!!

you guys are harsh, i probably would be trying to make the decision but luckily i bought my vette before the 135 came out, figure out which suits you more, do you want a pure sports car with sexy outside but a plastic interior or do you want more of a touring car thats pretty quick and well put together? id probably still end up with a vette

Gee, I don't know.......total up the answers here, post the same questions on the BMW forum, then total them, and let everyone else decide for you?
The leather in the interior may be better quality in the 135I.......but have you sat in one? It really is a small car, and the last time I sat in a BMW on a test drive (probably two years ago now), the leather was so hard, almost unyielding, that it did NOT come across as high quality and this was in a 3 series! There also simply was not room between the seat and the steering wheel to get comfortable. I can't imagine that the entry level 135 series is going to come across as that much more luxurious or roomy.....And torque and MPG and maintenance costs? No comparison -- Vette wins hands down........
importluva......you may have answered your own question with your avatar name...........

I'm not going to browbeat you like some other forum members here, but a Corvette is the way to go.
A 135 looks like every other BMW out there... Except smaller. You just can't match the "it" factor a Corvette has. If you're planning to keep the car for a long period of time, you can't go wrong with a Corvette. I've owned three Vettes so far (I'm turning 27 TOMORROW) and none of them have had major maintenance troubles thus far, especially my '07 C6 which I've put almost 18,000 miles on. They're plenty practical for groceries, and there's nothing like rolling up for a date in a Corvette!
Corvettes are cheaper to maintain in the long run, gas mileage is more than manageable at about ~20 for mixed driving, they're a heck of a lot of fun, and you just can't match the pride of being a 20-something driving your own Vette.
Just be prepared for a few "Is that you're dad's car?" jokes from older people and a whole hell of a lot of haggling of people in our own age group. When I got my first Corvette, I was 23 and got plenty sick of the import/ricer crowd revving their engines at me.

the C6 will crush the 135i in every single performance category + MPG + style + cheaper maint AFTER the 4 year free BMW.
Why would you pay $42K for a $135? just get the 335i if you are stuck on BMW.
