Anyone else have a problem with a high pitched whine that comes from the passenger side "tweeter" that occurs if the radio is on XM, AM, FM, CD, or if the radio is off and you lock the door and the chime goes off and the whine is in the background. Also, the whine varies in pitch with the engine RPM, the higher the RPM, the higher pitched the whine. It is intermittent and seems to occur when the car is driven over something rough like a seam on an overpass or driving across a railroad crossing.
My local dealer has had the car three times now, and put filters off the amp and to the speaker in question with no success and actually replaced the speaker in question last week and I did not have the problem for a few days, now it is back. The sound ONLY comes from the passenger "tweeter" or upper speaker. I have a 2007 LT3 Z-51. I also have one of those USASpec Vette ipod connectors that mounts off the XM module but disconnecting it makes no difference.
This sure sounds like an intermittent ground somewhere. The problem will be in finding it.
Something like this will have to be trial and error, and your dealer will probably have to replace one component at a time until the problem disappears. The amp would be as good a place to start as any.
I just got back from the dealer..........my problem is intermittent as well. As luck would have it, it stopped doing it about 1 mile from dealer. I went back to the pit and talked to the guy and took him for a spin. It started doing it again when we hit a bump about 2 mi from the dealership. Makes me think it's a bad ground. However, he said there were some tech svc bullitins dealing with this. He said he thought that he'd need to put a noise suppressor in line with the vehic control module. I dont know if I'm crazy about letting them do that though, messing with the wiring harness.
I've also noticed that if it's already whining, that pushing the brake seems to make it louder. Anyone know of a TSB that deals with this?
its fine. Its basically a ground loop isolater. The noise your hearing is basically current that is trapped in the metal of the vehicle. since most of the car is alluminum there are only a few grounding points on the car.You might have a loose ground strap. corrosion off your allternator or battery. etc. you can check each component by grounding by jumping lead directly to battery. or put in the ground loop isolater .both work. try wiggling harnesses by amp and follow grounding points off radio and amp if you can you may have a bad connecter or harness also so its important to find the device that causing the caos.
Well, I finally got the problem I was having with radio whine fixed. I went to the dealer last wk and the guy suggested that the problem was in the vehicle communications interface module, and that he needed to put a filter in to fix it. Turns out, he was right, although I didnt trust him enough to let him start cutting wires on my car. There is a TSB on cadillacs with a similar problem. Evidently, the noise is being introduced by the VCIM to the radio system at VCIM plug x2 (plugs into the VCIM in the J3 spot), at pin #9 of that plug. Svc manual says that the wire is meant for cellular telephone microphone signal. Anyway, I just unplugged the x2 plug (only one with an orange wire, J3 stamped on the VCIM) and the intermittent whine is gone for good. I do not use onstar anyway.........so good riddance to the whine.
