Yesterday my wife and I completed the NCM Experience. It was fantastic.
We drove to Bowling Green on Monday and stopped by the National Corvette Museum in the afternoon to get the lay of the land and know where to be four our 7:45 AM appointment on Tuesday. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and met our tour guide for the next day's plant and museum tours. We stayed at the Hampton Inn…very clean, nice room and the staff was friendly and helpful.
When we checked in at the museum on Tuesday morning our guide took the keys to our 2008 Victory Red coupe and drove it around to the wash/detailing area of the museum. Following that we hopped in a Chevy van and rode with our guide to the assembly plant.
There were no public tours that day because they had just finished retooling and making some changes in the plant and there was still work being done on the revised production sequences.
We were told that the plant should be turning out Corvettes at the rate of 18 per hour but that they would be running a bit slower than that due to the retooling.
The tour was really good. We spoke with a number of the workers on the line who seemed to appreciate our presence and interest in their jobs.
During the time that we were there they were assembling quite a high percentage of ZR1’s and Z06’s. It was really interesting to see side by side comparisons of various components for the three models: brakes, wheel/tires, engines , exhaust systems etc.. The Cyber Gray ZR1's are nice!
Following the two-plus hour plant tour our guide took us back to the museum for a private guided tour. He has a wealth of knowledge about Corvette history that he freely shared with us.
Near the end of the tour we came to our car, totally clean and shining behind a roped off area. Our guide pointed out the cameras and we called our son who was able to get online from his office an see us live on the net. He captured a number of screen shots that he later emailed to us.
My wife did a bit of damage to the credit card in the museum gift shop before we left.
Outside we had our photo taken in front of the museum with our shinning C6 . We departed just a bit after noon.
All in all it was a great event and well worth the investment of time and money.

Reason: 18 per hour not per minute
great story and that Museum store does a ton of biz because it's so well stocked and laid out. not to mention they have great variety and prices aren't bad at all. I like it!

Congrats! We did the Museum pick-up in June of this year. Our guide was Curt Adkins. He was very knowledgeable and very accomodating.
It was impressive the way some of the assemblers saw our i.d.'s and came over to talk to us about our Corvettes or to tell us something.
My wife got to start a new Z06 as it come off the assembly line, and another one drove by, stopped, the driver called one of us to get in (her again), and drove over and did a multi-test on rollers. The regular tour group was quite impressed. Margaret explained to one lady who was put out that they didn't call on her that our luck in getting chosen to do these things only cost us $60 grand!
We put 4500 miles on our vette before we got home. Enjoyed every inch of it!
I read here recently that only 950 or so 2008 buyers opted for Museum delivery. Quite an elite group. I am so glad we did it. We'd do it again in a minute.

Just the idea that "My car was on public display at the National Corvette Museum across the street from the Corvette factory" makes this option worth every penny. To be treated like royalty for a day as well makes it unbelievable. It is something I'll never forget and will do again.
Yes, Curt Adkins was the gentleman who conducted our plant and museum tours too. He is a terrific guy and made us feel like VIP's for sure.
We traded our '05 C6 for the new 2008 Coupe, working with a dealer here in the St.Louis area who had a number of Vettes in inventory, a little over a month ago. It was a buyer's market.
I signed up for the NCM Experience shortly after.
It's only about a five hour drive to Bowling Green. The Valentine 1 worked just as it should and we averaged 26.4 mpg on the trip.
We were delighted by every aspect of the NCM Experience.
The only downside of the tour was that my wife took a real shine to those gleaming Cyber Gray Corvettes moving along the assembly line...this could prove to be costly. One of the workers in the plant even gave here a Cyber Gray "punch out" from the rear fascia a Vette being made for export...now she has a physical reminder!!
