I dont have any personal experience with wheel cleaners however I will say I do not recommend using them. I have heard over time they can hurt the finish of the wheel plus I dont see whats wrong with simply cleaning the wheels with your normal car wash and sponge. Assuming this is for your vette and the wheels dont get that dirty anyway.
Mothers makes one of the best wheel cleaners on the market.
It will not harm your wheels.
Spray it on your rims while they are dry and let it sit a couple of minutes then rinse. Brake dust rinses right off.
If your rims are really dirty you might have to use a soft brush to agitate what remains but all in all a great product.
Any STOCK C6 wheels will clean with soap and water, then use the same wax you use on other painted surfaces, anything else can damage the finish. The only exception is stock CHROME wheels, if needed on chrome only you can use a mild chrome cleaner/polish.
Except for chrome which is usually not covered with clearcoat, most of the other wheels are. So, no matter what cleaner you find, check the label and make sure it is "clear-coat" safe. In fact, taken care of periodically the methods above, car wash soap, polish/wax, will serve you very well.
I have the chrome wheels and I use Simply Green concentrated diluted with water (about a 1 to 5 ratio). I clean the wheels first (along with the insides of the wheels and wheel wells) to get all the brake dust off and then wash the car. During the car wash I go over the wheels again with the car wash.

I have three cars painted wheels, Comp gray and chrome only use soap and water.
I have discovered...and highly recommend...Poorboy's Spray and Rinse Wheel Cleaner. It is citrus-based, is not caustic and does an incredible job, particularly in the "barrel" of the rims. Although you do not need to agitate with a brush, I do and am very happy with the product.
