Default Killer Bee / Beehive ?

I've read several threads about airflow and cai's but I'm still left wondering if the Vette Air is really necessary. If, for example, you had a Killer Bee and a Beehive, wouldn't just cutting the hole that the Vette Air fits in, do the same thing?

Thanks,
Phillip

I have the Vette Air air inlet, along with the Halltech Venom and Bee Hive. I think the Vette Air is better than just cutting holes in the shroud. I say that because the Vette Air is basically an air scoop designed to bring fresh air from the grille area to the intake. Adding the Bee Hive helps isolate the intake from the heat of the engine bay and the radiator. I also added insulation on the intake side of the shroud to further insulate the intake area from the heat generated by the radiator.

I am also monitor my IATs all the time and I have seen a difference in how the IATs stay cooler since adding the Bee Hive.

Here's what the Vette Air looks like.

Here it is installed.

With the intake.

And with the Bee Hive.

According to Jim Hall at Halltech, making two oval cutouts, one at each end of the shroud to allow cold air into the Beehive / Killerbee set up is all you need to do. This allows the air to flow directly into the open sides of the Killerbee filter, as opposed to using the vette air which flows air into the bottom of a closed filter. People have used both methods, however Jiim Halls' method makes more sense with less air flow disruption. This applies to the LS3 motor, not the Z06, which already has the open nose duct. I have the Killerbee, but have yet to purchase
the beehive because I am hesitant to cut holes at the bottom of the shroud. If I already had the vette air, I would use it. If not, save your money and follow Jim Hall's method.

In answer to your question, yes,Either way you get the same results.I have the same big filter(because I didn't want to spend 450+ on vararam) under a different name and did exactly that, cut a hole in my shroud.Works fine.

Is there any risk of the holes or the Vette Air allowing to much air in causing front end lift?
