I've got it bad now. After a test drive in an 05, I can hardly look at my Solstice anymore.
After some research I've narrowed it down to exactly what I want. I'm decided on a Black/Black Coupe Manual w/ Z51 and I can definitely live with 1LT, but that's only if I can't find a car with 3LT (The HUD is really neat!).
The problem is now in the logistics. I've got to ditch the Solstice somehow, and then track down my dream car.
What's a reasonable amount to pay for a Corvette with the setup I mentioned?
How many miles can you live with? That will affect the price quite a bit. Good luck with your search. Hope you get one soon.
I'm not a big stickler for miles. I can live with 20-25k. Besides, with more miles you don't get that "oh no! I'm about to hit whatever-thousand miles!" stigma.

Your situation sounds almost like mine ... except my trade was a GTO and I wanted a new red 08 coupe, 3LT, auto and basically nothing else. Larry at VetteNet arranged a trade for me that was exactly what I wanted with no drama or problems and even included dealer transporting both vehicles to/from me.
... or you could always 'mallettize' your Solstice

I feel for you. I am sure that you have been Vette-in-ized and coming out of a Solstice only makes it worse......We've heard here from several sources that the Solstice just does not seem to be holding up well in the long run......get a few miles on them and they begin to sound and act like a 10 year old car.......true?
I like reading threads like this...I've had my C6 now for about 3 years and you get to a point where you start to take it for granted...this just reminded me of when I first got the bug and couldn't even sleep, especially the night before i was due to pick up my baby..thanks for bringing back those fond memories..

Oh yeah. There's definitely some truth to that. So far the repairs I've had done to it are having the pinion seals and yokes replaced twice! It's got what I think is a bad throwout bearing in the transmission which makes it squeal at 2000 rpms, I've managed to tear both door handles off of the outside and break the handle on the inside, there's a leak somewhere in the power steering area, the passenger side A/C ducting leaks water onto the floor, the panel on top of the steering wheel column has come off, the gauge border came off, the car is generally very creaky and makes a ton of noise in pretty much any situation...that's all I can think of for now.
It's an 06 with 18,000 miles, by the way.
As for the Mallett Solstice, it's a cool idea but I don't think I really like the platform at all. I think the point of the car was for it to be very pure or whatever, but it's really just under featured. There aren't even any buttons on the inside to unlock the doors!
I am probably going to get banished from the C6 section but I highly suggest you also look at C5's. I love Corvettes but I am not a huge performace guy and while I know my C6 LS3 has a lot more ponies than my 2004 C5, to me the WOW factor is the same and I miss my C5. By the way, I didn't give up my C5 for the C6, just for my house. I would love to get that car back. Not to say that my C6 isn't awesome. I only mention this becuase you are talking a used Vette. A 2004 is likely to have less issues than a 2005. Flame on.

I actually prefer the styling on the C6 more. Unfortunately vanity is pretty expensive, but aside from the many features, performance, and gadgets of the C6 vs the C5, I just prefer the way it looks. And I'm looking at at 2007.

Good to know I'm not "one of a kind". I started getting the "bug" when my great friend bought his 2001 C5 & would take me for rides when we'd go out for lunch at work. I researched 'vettes for over a year, going from wanting to get a used 2004, then a 2005, then a 2006, found the "dream" car in a 2007 but it sold before I could get it, then my friend said I should really consider the 2008 hp increase + improvements. Found a 2008 GM buyback at a 2006 or 2007 price I couldn't pass up + my wife said to get it. It wasn't what I would have "ordered" (NPP, chrome wheels, Z51), but had enough (A6, Bose, 3LT, VR/Ebony) that I could certainly live with as my first 'vette. From what I'm told, if you were spoiled by a ride in a 2005, try an '08, for much improvement! Hope you get yours soon--it's an AWESOME feeling & experience. You'll find yourself finding a reason to just go sit in it & take in its awesomeness.

MY son is getting a 2008 GXP-Orange, I think its a HOT looking roadster!!! Loaded down MSRP $32,285 with 1,400 miles for $21,500 a steal!!!

They are great looking cars. I think that the base model is severely underpowered, though. The 2.4l ecotec engine is pretty crappily designed, in that it has a really steep torque curve. It doesn't get anything done until 4,000 RPM, but I'm sure the GXP takes care of that.
I've been shopping around, and it seems like Carmax has some really low prices...of course, I'd rather not buy from them if I have a choice about it. They have a no-haggle policy, so you pretty much pay what's listed, but can dealerships compete with these prices, or is it fair to approach a dealership with a price like that in mind?
