Default Need some solid advice from corvette people.

Recently I have thought about selling my highly-modified 2006 A6 corvette coupe (20,000$ + in mods.). My favorite tuner is no longer that close to my house and I have no one that is within reasonable driving distance to work on my car. I own my own business so I don't have a lot of time to drive and leave my car.

I also want to buy a convertible and get a manual tranny. I have located some Vipers in my area (2006 500hp model), and they are very affordable (55,000$ give or take 3grand)!

What would be the best way to sell my car and move into a viper? Anyone want to give me pros and cons to changing the vehicle to a Dodge? Is this the wrong time?

How do I figure out how to sell a car this modified? To whom?

Thanks for any input.

Greg

Good luck. Often when you modify your car you DRASTICALLY reduduce the value and even more reduce the number of people that want your car. I think your up S**t's creek.

As far as the Viper get one while you can. The car is dead and will not be made next year.

try to sell it as-is. if that doesn't work de-mod it and sell the parts.

Send a limo to get your tuner to your house on a regular basis.

If possible return your car to stock and sell the car and mods separate.

DD is probably not the best idea, track car, definitely.

all good advice above. as a test, just advertise it, as is, in say autotrader.com and cars.com. then, you will see who comes out of the woodwork. be prepared for joyriders, liars, people with no money, people who want to buy the car for $5K or thereabouts, etc.

as to buying a viper, no argument. just remember that it will be an orphan very soon; that means parts issues someday. not to mention the daily driver comfort which I have no personal knowledge of.

also, try the various corvette clubs, see if they'll let you advertise it as is.

Ask your tuner if he will help you sell the car. If he will, advertise it in the area that he is in now. If he is willing to accept calls about the car, it will more than likely sell.

Well I am in the same position with my 05 Vert, I am not selling it but have well over 30K and know what I would do if I were to sell. I helped a buddy sell his TT highly modded vette. What we did was bring the car almost back to its stock form and sold the TT's and most of the high dollar mods. We kept a lot of the cosmetic mods on and he did very well in the end. Sold the car and all of the performance parts and cosmetic parts as well a the wheels..and when I say he sold everything I mean he was totally out of parts. He did really well on the performace mods...not a big loss at all.

There is some really good advise to you regarding the Viper. I have driven one and had a buddy who owned one. It is a good performing car but as a DD...not so much. I think the advse your getting is solid...not Corvette people beating on the Viper. Drive one more than around the block before you decide its the car for you. After driving your C6 it will be hard to overcome the harsh ride of the viper. Good luck.

Everyone has given excellent advise. You probably won't have time to return it to stock and sell out the parts since you don't even have the time to bring your car to another shop. I understand because I'm in the same position. I know that mods are worthless when I resell so I only do a mod if I'm willing to take the loss.

You're going to take a huge loss on the value of the car, stock-condition. The mods are worthless and only of use to someone who is willing to either (a) buy them separately or (b) is looking for your exact car and is willing to pay for it. A hard sell in this economy. You won't be divorcing your Vette anytime soon unless you are willing to eat a tremendous loss.

The Viper is not a daily driver - it's a track car. You will hate every minute in it on the street. It's a POS to drive in daily traffic - it's simply not built for that.

Keep the Vette.

Take this from a former Viper owner, drive the car and I mean test drive the car in traffic, park the car and then get back in and drive the car. The heat build up in the car is terrible, but it is something you must experience.

Me too, My dad has had 4 Vipers, still has 2. I have been driving them since '94. While the new SRT (2003-) is far superior to the early cars it is still harsh compared to the C6. They are great cars, but not really a DD. There is a reason most of the Vipers you find will have only 1-2k miles per year on them. I thought about getting one, but in the end I bought an 05 Vette and saved 13 grand over the 04 Viper. Savings was great and I like all the creature comforts. I am very happy with the decision.

IMO the Viper is best suited for those who are in NEED of a 2nd sports car. Get the Vette for DD, Viper for weekend.
